imo its all in your head, the 15's and 16's don't have any ride difference, you'd feel more of a difference on worn shocks, have you looked at that?? i can't imagine you driving a civic

I'm not saying the GS is the best because of the extra hp/tq, blah blah blah, just because from everything I've ever heard/read, it's the most comofortable Legend. As in it has the nicest ride. I honestly can't imagine a 1" difference in wheels making the ride quality that much worse. I don't think Acura would've put the 16" GS wheels on the car if they thought from testing that the ride quality was worse.

I guess you're right though, your various surgeries have most likely made you much more sensitive to faults in the road.

i'll concede to your heightened sensitivity to road conditions due to back surgeries, However, you must know that it's not the tire sidewall and wheel diameter that make the difference...

IT'S THE TIRE!!!

i've said this many times in the past, it all depends on the tire you get. there's instance where a 17" 45 series tire has had a stiffer ride than an 18" 35series.

Typically european and american Ultra High performance tires will have thicker sidewalls thereby making them really stiff, even in high profile instances (55 and better).

My suggestion to you would be to find a toyo tire or a Nitto lower end "comfort" geared tire that has a soft/thin sidewall and run the recommended tire pressure.

Anything from Continental in a low profile or borderline (again 55) will have a stiff wall. This is caused by a thick tire carcass that is designed to reduce flex moreso than cater to ride comfort. same with Dunlop and a Michelin's Pilot Sport brand. Bridgestone's Potenzas will be pretty stiff if you get the sport Potenza. Stay away from the turanza as its got the junkiest, most unpredictable traction loss ever (wrecked my volvo once and those tires were partly the cause) Plus they scream when you corner at anything over 13mph

Anyways, i would say stick to low level high performance tires from Korea and Japan. Nitto and Kumho and Hankook are places you can look for a good tire.

It just takes doing your homework when you buy tires for sidewalls less that 55. Bigger sidewall doesn't always mean softer ride....look at biaply truck tires...those are some of the hardest riding tires and the sidewall is bigger than my head

B+O I agree completely. And I understood this when I bought the 215/45/17Yokohama Avid H4s. The dude at the tire shop told me that it did NOT have a stiff sidewall and that it did favour comfort over performance.

The cheaper lower performance tires I thought gave you harder rubber compunds .... mostly which led to longer tread life but reduced traction. I didn't consider sidewall stiffness in a lower performance tire would also increasebe the comfort factor.

That being said, I will never again buy anything lower profile than a 60 series tire !

The guy who sold me those Turanzas said they were a "high-performance tire"

said they're the best tire they've got in the 215/55R-16 that i needed for my volvo. I insisted on a different tire. I even asked if they had that "FUZION" tire, but they didn't. I acquiesced since i needed tires and put those bastids on. I swear that i have never felt so lied to and deceived in my life. i was COMPLETELY grossed out and i actually had the tires removed from another shop, and i took those Turanzas back for full price. I refused to buy anymore tire or give them any more "labor" money for the sh*t they pulled. And best believe that i will not support a Firestone franchise ever again.

NEVER listen to Tire salesmen. you HAVE to do your own homework and read testimonials from A LOT of people who own them.

TireRack.com has a testimonials section on just about every tire they sell. Read those and read any other sites that might be out there, don't listen to too many sales people...

BTW If i'm not mistaken Yokohama was the 45 series 17 tire that was stiffer than the 35 series toyo FZ4 18"

yeah, well I guess I am stuck with wheels and tires that are not what I wanted, Guess I will just enjoy the look of the IS300 wheels, drive slow over the bumpy road and use up the Yokohamas

By then it will be time to get myself an LS400 !
