2nd Gen OEM Struts & Springs - Need Help

I believe that I popped my drivers side strut - a lot of rattling over simple bumps and front end up/down travel. I had gabriels on, but am wondering if they were good enough for NYC streets. I dont want to lower or raise my car. All i want to do it try to restore (as close as possible) the original ride and height of my car.

I have done a search, but all i keep coming up with is eibach this and koni that, lower this and camber that.

1. Who makes/where can I get, the OEM brand for the 2nd Gen Legend Sedan (non GS)?

2. Who makes/where can I get the OEM brand Springs for a 2nd Gen Sedan (non GS)

Peace, Thanks

You might have a broken spring. I had a rattle in my drivers side for like three years and couldn't find it until I replaced the struts and found that the top of that spring was broke right under top cap that holds the insulater in place. I recently replaced all my corners with gabriels and also I ended up getting two new front oem springs.

I still have the original passenger side spring and strut around the garage, minus all the rubber and plastic hardware that holds the strut/shock together. PM me if your interested........

If it was the spring, would it bound up and down like that? Wouldnt it just kathud. The car doesnt seem to dip further down than normal (well, when I am stopping from highway speeds, it kind of a shuttering that I hear).

You know, might be springs - I put these gabriels on in the summer, so I cant imagine them breaking so easy, but anything is possible in NYC.

I was trying to hold off until later in 2007, but it seems I have to replace all my corner hardware - springs and struts - who makes OEM springs? I will probably go back to the Gabriels, but if I need springs, where do it get them beside the dealer?

driving in NYC parkway is a good time to test your suppension system. like alot of bumby or noise making when went over a bumb. or the rear car getting throw off. My bro just did his rear sway bar bushing and strut whew 65-75 mph in FDR drive is nothing but I had notice the front start to get alittle bumby since the rear supession is completely soilid. After the replacement we notice a huge improvement over cornering handling.

Hey boss, I wanted to remind you to check your front upper control arms. You moght be suprised, but they affect the performance of the suspension BIG TIME. I had put a set of 4 KYB GR2 shocks on my sedan a few years back and was disapointed with the results - still had lots of noise over bumps, squeeking, etc. I threw a set of upper control arms on and it drove like new! I never even needed struts. I always manage to learn the expensive way.

my bad, I didn't realize you were mentioning its your drivers' side.

I would say that the mine would have more of a metal grinding sound when I would go slow up over speed bumps and making right turns. The sound eventually went away over time.

Its when I put on new 18" wheels and went through an uneven street intersection at a decent speed, I notice the wheel wheel on the drivers front bottomed out and slightly bent the fender well I realized the spring or strut might be the problem.

Some of the Philly streets are bad, but so far the new oem springs and gabriels are holding up like champs.

You can't get oem type springs at regular auto parts stores. You can only get oem springs through a dealer. I get all my oem parts online through Delray Acura:

http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/jsp/home.jsp

descent dealer prices and never had a problem looking for what I needed.

That's a thought, would that make noise while stopping from say highway speed? Another thing, is the upper the part that seems like it curves over the top of the tire? and is connected to the top of the spring/strut set up?

I am gonna take a look tomorrow and see before I go to my mech. Ultimately, what I wnat to do is just get 4 new oem springs and a set of gabriels and call it a day

Just tonight, I was on the FDR going north 50 to 60MPH (battery to triboro bridge) tonight and over the smooth parts it was okay, but in the left lane the driver side was getting a work out - a lot of shuttering, didnt effect my steering any, maybe shimmy a bit, but I held lane pretty good - it's just that over the bumps, even simple ones, i was getting the shuttering / badadadadada sound, but no bottoming out, unless it was a hard bump - other than that it rode okay all the way home.

It is in my personal opinion that you stay as far away as possible from the Gabriel struts. You can get a set of 4 KYB-GR2 struts on ebay for around $240 shipped, about the same amount, or a little more, you are spending on the gabriels. They are not the best in quality, but they have a better track record than Gabriel.

The only really good way to check the upper control arm would be to pop the upper balljoint off. You can then check the condition of the inner bushings for wear and the balljoint for play.

Speaking of bushings have your mechanic check the front-most control arm bushing, they are prone to breakage.

Finally a definative answer - so you recommend I just get a set of KYB's then? I was thinking going with them because they are oem, but I kept hearing they are really for lowering and such and will mess up the ride (make it rough). I couldnt get real answers about gabriel except that they say they are the best.

I guess I have to let my mech look at it.
