It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If your car has alot of scratches/swirl marks, the simoniz won't do the job. If you simply want to place wax on the car and remove it, the simoniz will do it. This weekend I detailed my wife's car and I went through 5 steps. 1. High Speed with Compound (removes scratches), 2. Glaze (removes swirls), 3. Swirl remover (removes stubborn swirls), 4. Wax, and finally, 5. Final Inspection (wax remover/extra gloss). 6 hours later...she's beautiful.

A random orbital is also called by many in the detailing world, a jitter bug. It basically only vibrates, really not working polish, but it can apply wax. For the weekend warrior detailer, you will want to look into 5 items, all of which are Dual action polishers. The Ultimate Detail Machine, The Porter Cable D/A Line (7424,7336,or the meguiars g100), The new meguiars buffer, The FLEX Buffer, or the Griot's Garage buffer.

I have the Meguiars G100 buffer, and absolutely love it. It removes a great amount of swirls, but it wont remove all defects (for those you need to get a rotary.) Im working on my coupe right now and am using Meguiars #83 polish then topped with Meguiars #26 Wax and its coming out great!

Honda had fun designing the window visors for the Japanese Legend. It wasnt to be installed without injury. They absolutely wanted you to destroy your finger tips.

I'm STILL abit afraid of using anything mechanical being as I've always applied my wax by hand, but I have been looking into the above mentioned.... Meguiars is coming out with a brand new machine in the next few weeks, and 2 weekends ago I was at the Griot's open house where I was handling and watching them use their own porter cable/Ultimate Detail Machine.

I'll get one eventually !! Hell I've got about $400-$500. in wax products in my garage !

The porter cable is a great beginner's tool. It's basically impossible to burn the paint with it, but you can achieve an awesome finish. I use a DeWalt (high speed) for stubborn scratches and rock chips, but I like the porter cable 7336 to apply glazes. The DeWalt has bristle attachments that clean carpets better than any extractor/shampooer you can find. I never leave home without it!

I think it is worth noting that a nice slick finish really only needs the glaze and wax. Don't go compounding your four-year-old, garage kept car.

You are right, but the car actually was filled with water spots. As far as garage kept....only when the Legend has left the garage (despite having a two car garage). Yeah, mean I know, but my legend needs her extra space.

Absolutely, I just don't want people with really nice paint rubbing compound all over it needlessly.

I agree with KEYZER SOZE. I uses a DeWalt myself, and my car had always looked sweet everytime.
