Fighting tree sap?
Hey, all. I've noticed a little bit of a problem with where I park at home. A frickin' huge tree next door is just dumping little droplets of sap onto my car practically every day. I just washed my car yesterday and now it just looks like crap, even though I threw some wax on it about a month ago. This stuff is really hard to get off, too. Is there anything out there that's relatively finish-friendly that I can pick up that'll get rid of this crap?
And, while I'd love to I can't go out and take a chainsaw to this damn tree. Believe me, if I had half the chance I'd be out there playing lumberjack right this minute.

Is it a pine tree? If not then it is likely 'honeydew' and not tree sap. That's a landscapers term for insect poop. Mostly aphids, ants and some scale insects. Some good info on removal here:

The best way to fight it is to park in a garage. My house has several huge white pines. My car is never in the driveway.
However, I have more cars than garages. The best advice is to remove the sap early. The longer it sits the harder it will be to remove. My best results came from using a product called Citra Solv concentrate. I have some plastic razor blades that I use to remove most of the sap first (don't touch the paint, just take off most of the lump of sap). This gets the harder outer shell of the sap off, exposing the gooey sap, that removes more easily with the citra solv. Put Citra Solv on a cotton ball and remove the sap. Apply wax to the area. Here is a link to the product Citrasolv Products PS - the plastic razor blades are perfect for removing all the sap from your windows without solvent (real razors work, too). .

^^+1 the only downside would be if it's your daily driver then it's a pain in the @$$ to take on and off all the time. Before gas got as i as it is i use to only drive my G2 like once every couple of weeks to work and i'd always put the cover on in the parking lot. It was definately a pain. Couldn't imagine having to do that daily.

As much as I'd like to get rid of this tree, it is on the neighbor's property, and... prolly about 75-100 feet tall. If that sucker comes down, it's taking out the house across the street. The next place I live is going to have a garage(in a much older part of town, houses dating back to the 1890s-1920s). At least I've paid my coupe off a couple days ago, so saving up for a car cover will happen in short order.

there is a product called Goop Off..works wonders on sap, or anything sticky.....but the best way to prevent it from sticking is laying down a smooth slick surface (clay/polish/wax) and make sure you keep up with the wax (at least once a mo or every othe mo) and when you wash the car, after you dry, make sure to quick detail after
