Paint job

I've never had a car completely repainted before. Ballpark, how much should I expect to pay? Same color and different color.

for a good quality job, where they take off all the moldings and stuff, 3 coats paint and 3 clear coats expect to pay anywhere from $2000-$5000 for the same color. im not sure how much it would cost to change the color. i think it would depend on i u painted all inside pieces a new color to, ie:door trim, engine bay, etc..

My color change with Sikkens paint would have run about $8000 including smoothing the body dents, replacing moldings, door jambs, trunk, and most of the engine bay.

$200-$15,000.

It all depends on the money you have and the quality you want.

Check this thread out...

I was quoted $4,000 as a typical price for a color change. It was gold and I painted it white. I totaly dissasembled the car and had it hanging together with a couple bolts to get it to the shop. The owner/painter pulled the trunk lid, hood, side moldings a doors. Total cost when finished - $3,000 and the paint job was flawless and buffed out like glass. I put the car back together with some new parts, emblems, clips, all the stickers etc. for another maybe $150 bucks. Well worth it.

Well I just picked up a 92 Vigor for a good deal. It's white with flawless black leather interior. The exterior has a few rust spots and I'm not a fan of white cars (no offense to to you, m3456y..your NSX looks amazing). I was thinking a bright blue, something what you'd see on a newer BMW. I don't know the first thing about painting cars, whether going from a lighter color to a darker costs more, etc. etc.

The main thing to insure that a paint job that looks like it came on the car is spend the time to take as much of the car apart as you can. Remove the emblems, trim, grill, lights, etc...so the paintshop does not have to mask these areas. If you have the door jambs painted...remove the weather striping and anything else that will prevent a seamless color change. Under the hood it gets tough. Have the shop mask where the fenders bolt on, so that it looks like they were painted off the car. There is no really good way - other than removing everything under the hood to change the color so that you can't tell - way too much hassle. It's a lot of work taking it apart and putting back together, but no matter what color you pick, you'll be much happier with the final results
