just put the lexoil on a rag kneed it into the leather, repeat till it feels softer. what I use to do when restoring saddles was to spread the applications over like a week time period. giving the leather a lexoil treatment once a day. you have to give the lexoil time to soak in.

Good leather info -

" Leather cleaning & conditioning explained.

Lanolin, mink oil, aloe, banana oil, collagen, Neatsfoot Oil...What are all these ingredients?

What's really good for leather and what's marketing hype?

To find out, we went to Summit Industries, the manufacturer of Lexol® leather care products and a world respected leader in leather care."

It takes time for your leather to get back to its natural feel. You have to be faithful in taking care of it at least once a week. My leather used to be very very very bad, I mean really bad. I thought about replacing all my seats. But I tried the following 4 products;they have changed my life.

1- Mr clean Magic Eraser
2- Saddle Soap)
3- Mink Oil
4- Allsoft ( shipped from Canada)

--You clean your leather with magic eraser ( It takes all the craps out)
--You use saddle soap as a conditioner ( I recommend you leave it on for 15 minutes)
--Then use either mink oil or allsoft ( do not use both; you can switch between mink oil and allsoft everytime you clean your leather)

Do this for 4 weeks (at least one a week), and get back to us with the results.

Remember this: Patience is sour, but its fruit is sweet. It is not about using the most expensive product, but it is about persistence and patience. f you are consistent at what you do, using the right products, you'll get good results.

In fact, saddle soap is a very poor cleaner. It must first dissolve its own oils, limiting its capacity to dissolve dirt and oils in the leather. Saddle soap is also inherently alkaline but alkalinity is damaging to leather. Another problem arises during application. Most saddle soaps instruct the user to work the lather into the leather. Since loosened dirt is suspended in the lather, it is pushed back into the leather's pores.

Saddle soaps have long been replaced in tanneries by modern emulsions which penetrate, soften and condition with greater ease and stability. The popular myth of saddle soap as a cleaner however persists as modern folklore.

From the Lexol leather care web page.

The guys at a local detailing shop recomended lexol to me, and said they applied it by hand (no rag). So I checked out it's MaterialSafetyDataSheet and it has no nasty stuff. I tried rubbing it in by hand and found it waaaay easier and quicker than using a cloth, you can get into nooks and crannies easier and it makes the conditioner last longer with nothing being soaked up by a cloth.

When I first got my olg G1 I went on the research hunt and also read that saddle products were not good for long term on car leather, I read what Triggerman is mentioning about alkalinity. I eventually found a product out of the UK called Liquid leather (I posted about it then), it worked well, but it was the leather smell it reinstituted for a couple of weeks that was cool. When I ran low I picked up the lexol because it was easy to get, seems alright so far. Leaves the leather VERY shiny at first, but within a day or so it dulls and feels good. I might order some more Liquid Leather for the smell again.
