Busy Break Pictures

I got myself a new flash, a lens hood and a new camera bag that fits all my goodies. I've been taking a lot of pictures over break. I figured I'd share what I was up to. If you're on facebook, theres a good chance you've seen some of these but here they are anyway:

First let me say how surprised I am at the flash. I really didn't expect the light to look as natural as its turned out. Bouncing light off the walls FTW!

I spent most of the weekend training with my flash for my friend's show. Being able to use my 18-55mm really opened up the possibilities for both normal shots and my signature close ups:

Perhaps one of my favorite shots and one of the only ones I used without a flash. 18mm at F/3.5 and 1/3" shutter:

I'm happy to say there is a LOT more variety this shoot than last shoot. I really had a lot of fun moving through the crowd getting as many different angles as I could(though I'm sure you can tell my favorite angle was right in between the kickers on the floor). Here is the full album if you're interested in paging through it: Kensphotography's photos and albums on webshots I thought a webshots would be a good idea to have because I can go to events, ask to take people's pictures, then tell them to go to this site to check them out. Webshots is the only place I know that allows 2400x1600 resolution for free.

The hood I was talking about is designed for my 70-300mm lens and its about 3" long. The hood available for my 18-55mm is about 1cm long and I can't imagine very helpful. My hood does however fit the 18-55mm lens so I get to do cool things like this:

Realizing I had some good series of burst shots in my archives, I decided to get myself a freeware GIF animator.

And my favorite...

I think OEM is the best look. I just don't happen to think any of the various arrangements of OEM got it exactly right all at once

Thanks! Thats about the best praise I could get from you guys. Heres the GIF animator I used: Beneton Movie GIF - Reviews and free Beneton Movie GIF downloads at Download.com Its simple but it'll get the job done.

You can get models on craigslist? What can't you get on craigslist??

haha, ya i just went on and searched for photography gigs, and found a chick my age looking to expand her portfolio, so we are gonna get together for a shoot soon.

we were supposed to last night, but it started raining.

Also, ill let you guys in on a secret. The girl i am gonna shoot told me about a site, ModelMayhem.com

Im working on collecting some good portraits to put on there, you have to create an account, post AT LEAST 4 pictures and wait to be approved. I had no idea they would be so critical of the pictures, they denied me membership. haha Only cause i have 2 GOOD portraits.

But Photographers, Models, Makeup Artists, Hair, any job that goes along with this is on the site. You can search models in your area, also you can search photographers in your area.

Hmm. The site seems to be down. I'd like to see what they define as a portrait. I've got plenty of shots of people but as per my style, most of them are candid and "portrait" strikes me as being something staged.
