Fear not the Dark
Rich got the idea of a 50mm f/1.8 lens in my head last week and it rolled through my head like a snowball gaining mass. Sunday night I ordered it along with a monopod (to steady my telephoto woes) and a tripod to replace wobbles (my beloved, though moderately aged tripod). Its absolutely amazing what this new lens can do. It lets in about 3x more light than my 18-55 lens can at 18mm. At this point some of you must think me crazy. I don't blame you. I have a ball playing with my camera though and I just can't get enough of it. The super-telephoto lens opened up an entire new arena to me and so has this 50mm lens. I mean, theres just so much to be done with all this variety I have now. I thought my rebel was cool when I pulled it out of the box three months ago, that doesn't have anything on what I've learned to do with it.
So heres some fooling for the day: This is ISO400 1/4" f/1.8. It even seems to be easier to keep the camera steadier since the lens is so light and low profile: ![]() This is ISO400 1/4" f/1.8: ![]() And my personal favorite, ISO400 1/6" f1/8: ![]() PLEASE don't give me anymore ideas. And I promise one day or another I'll get a real gallery going on in here.
