you might want to invest in a pocket bouncer http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...t_Bouncer.html
It will help your flash not be so harsh and make it a lot softer and at $40 its pretty cheap too . also since you are using a flash more now take a look at strobist even though you aren't using off camera flash there is still a wealth of info about flash photography in general. and the site is aimed at doing things on the cheap. hope this helps you out. great pics though you just got to get that flash mastered, lol don't worry i am still figuring mine out!

thanks mark. thats good advice, i will prolly use my tax return to invest in some lighting. i found a set on ebay of 3 umbrellas and 3 lights with stands, for like $80 shipped.

i tried bouncing the flash off the ceiling, but the shots were coming out too dark, the ceiling i think was too high, and since it was black it absorbed the light more i guess.

heres their myspace page, you can see the shots from my last thread in there. the guy i know designed this whole page with CS3. hes crazy good, the logo at the top, he made from scratch!

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endID=37386906

the pictures from my last shoot came out really good when he processed them. he said he liked how bright the figures were cause he was able to get the detail he wanted in the pictures.

Mmm. Nice. I think the flash work is worlds better than the last shoot. Flash work for the most part up until around photo 14 very well done. I had to double check to see you actually used a flash. Why is photo 7 so grainy? They're all ISO500? Did you turn up the exposure in photoshop or something? Thats another question, did you shoot in RAW and run these through photoshop? I disagree with DG, I think the aperture is good in every photo except 6th from last. Getting three in a row like that is tricky but so long as you're using a flash, you should be able to bump up the aperture to say f11 and be fine. Oh, and what lens did you use?

Sorry if I asked more questions than gave feedback, but like I said, nice pictures. Big improvement over the first shoot.

I think OEM is the best look. I just don't happen to think any of the various arrangements of OEM got it exactly right all at once

thanks ken, well, you see, i HAD Photoshop, but my trial ran out(since i switched to Mac) and i dont have a legal copy. so i havent been touching these as much, i used iphoto to lighten them up and crop them hints why #7 is grainy. i feel naked without PS. and ya, most of them were shot on ISO500

i used my standard lense, 14-55mm, my 35mm macro lense doesnt like low light, mostly b/c it doesnt focus right, and i cant do manual focus cause its so dark that i cant see if the subject is in focus or not.

no worries, questions are good too.

I see. You should definitely jump on a low aperture 50mm lens. They're no good for group shots but look at my last photo shoot with the horizontals. I'm real happy the way natural lighting worked out and only a little disappointed I couldn't get many group shots. It doesn't look like this place had many people up front though so you could probably move back and still get some decent group shots.
