my first shoot with a model......
these are of my fiancee's friend who's boyfriend is in marine bootcamp right now and she wanted to send some pics of her and their child to send to him. so here goes, I used an sb-25 speed light in a soft box mounted on the camera. i love what this soft box can do, it really helps out with skin tone. I noticed that it makes the flash less noticeable and way less intrusive. so here goes keep in mind i have little to no experience shooting people CC is always welcome.

you have to pick up one of those soft boxes, it really helps out with the flash. the difference is day and night, I found mine at a camera store in Tempe for about 50 wing wangs. you could probably pick one up cheaper on ebay. I just like the instant gratification of buying stuff at a store and immediately playing with it. I also bought some close up filters too. (I swear I can't go into that store without spending at least a hundred bones)

Looks good, hard to tell you're using a flash.
One thing I might recommend is using the sun to your advantage if the lighting is right. It looks like you took pictures when sunny and at dusk. Anyway, just get a reflector (just a windshield visor will work) and have a friend hold it and reflect the light how you want it. It's kind of fun and provides a natural light. EDIT: Just saw that you are shooting in RAW, so is the noise because of JPEG? Oh, and your white balance seems somewhat inconsistent. I do that all the time. |

haha, yeah, believe or not the couple times that I've used those sunshades, they worked really well, and are much cheaper than professional ones. There are even different colors and finishes. I have those silver matte finish ones, but you can probably use more reflective ones. Just don't get the ones that don't have a smooth surface since you'll get weird reflections. I've even used a white cardboard box piece for a class I took and it worked pretty well.
