Talking New Lens :)

My new lens came in the mail today . Here it is:

When I first started playing with it, I couldn't help but laugh because of how big the lens expands to. 75-300mm is ridiculous. I think its probably way overkill for anything I could need but thats a great thing in a super-telephoto lens. At first I was a bit concerned that I didn't have the stabilization technology with how much shake there seemed to be especially at 300mm but I played with it and figured out the lowest shutters I could free hand at and its really very reasonable. Those numbers are 1/20th at 75mm and 1/60th at 300mm. Whats really cool to me is how this new lens can let in twice as much light at 75mm as my old lens could let in at 55mm.

This lens got mixed reviews for lacking the image stabilizer but really I couldn't be happier. Only bad things I can say about it is the guy forgot or lost the lens cap and I got a UV filter... that I have no idea the use of. I just hope I can make good use of the lens. For the price, I couldn't pass it up.

Actually got this image at 300mm, 1/20th of a second sitting indian style using my knee as a brace. Also, all these close ups are exactly what ISO1600 is for... that is if you're stupid enough to use a 300mm lens indoors like I am

I think OEM is the best look. I just don't happen to think any of the various arrangements of OEM got it exactly right all at once

nice lens!!! how much did it set you back. also the uv filter is for haze but they are also used as a protection of the lens in case you drop it. I use uv filters for both my lens I rather break a $7 filter then a $250 lens. I was at wal-mart today and i think i am going to pick up one of those rebels as a spare camera. seeing as how i will get a 20% discount on one item in december.

I see. I'll have to play with it more when I get outside with it more. I just viewed it as two more surfaces to wipe smudges off of today. This lens sells online for $170. I got it shipped off ebay for $124. I know theres much better but you just can't beat that price. If its true that you can't spend less than $500 on a lens for your camera because you can't pop on a film camera lenses, then hell yea, pick up a rebel. My canon has never let me down.

75-300mm f/4.0-5.6. Still pretty damn good. I know I got some low light shots here but it'll probably be the last time I use the lens indoors. I was just too anxious to use it. I'll coerce my friends into playing frisbee this weekend or something, I promise.

At least with the 4.9ft minimum focal distance I'll have a good head start when that line backfires horribly.
