a very unique remote "rustic cabin" trip, stupid amount of pics

I did consider posting more than one thread for all these pics, but I figured the mods would frown upon such action.

so the ol'lady did well in her last term, and I decided we would take off for the weekend. I went cabin searching on the internet and found this place by walk on water taxi only (cars need to chartered on a barge). It's about 25 minute drive , with a 40 minute boat ride and we landed. Usually we like a road trip to get where we're going, but for a twoday weekend this was perfect. All my wife knew was that the cabin had running water (unlike our last one wayyyy out in the boonies). We also had to pack in all our food and drink (except water of course).

living room skylight

the masonry heat sink fireplace, took about 12 hours to heat up. after that a log every 3 hours and your toasty, very efficient. and the added bonus of a brick oven for cooking, that we made good use of.

you'll see the chimney does not come off the top of the fireplace, the smoke travels down through the mason work heating it up, before going back up through the chimney. you see the chimney behind here.

heading upstairs to the master bedroom that takes the upper floor, with ensuite, fireplace, wet bar with small fridge and a deck with a beutiful view from the bed.

enjoying the fireplace shortly after arriving

making use of the brick oven

roasted tomatoes

for homemade meatballs (also baked in the brick oven)

and what's becoming a cabin tradition, simple bread pudding.

I'm missing my pic of jerk chicken with baked plantain broiled with smoked gouda and brie cheese topped with serano pepper sauce. it was the best meal we had there.

the first night we had what looked like a full moon, but it was actually the next night when we had a fire out back to enjoy it.

local snow removal

a few cool trees

here comes our ride home

thanks, ya it was pretty cool. for those looking for a cool spot, I would just hit the internet hard, it took me looking at tons of sites before I stumbled across this one.

and yes the meatballs turned out very good, but the jerk chicken was the best.
