OK, new oem strainer, oring, and gasket (which didn't fit... had to use my old one). did the 4x flush, and no slipping! also good response from the trans too! I'm a very happy person right now :D

case closed!

My car has been slipping for quite awhile now. It started when I did a drain and fill with Honda ATF. I might do this 4x flush with new transmission filter. Of course I don't want it to get worse.

My car has 198K on it and when I did my drain and fill it was at 187K. I believe prior to that it had never been done, or if so done w/o Honda ATF

did you change the filter when you did the drain and refill? Like i mentioned, that was my problem. The 'nozzle' of the strainer didn't seal into the bottom of the transmission. But the OEM one did. And make sure you get the correct year of the transmission. My transmission ended up being a 94, where my car is a 95. Good luck!

Excellent documentation of your situation and out come Shaar, I am experiencing the same thing in my auto right now. This is the last thing I needed in teh middle of a swap for the other car I REALLY hope this and Koe's DIY (and thank you too Koe for the DIY I will be referring to it very soon)do the trick here. Thank you both!

I hope it works out for you. I learned the hard and expensive way, but at least its a lesson learned and a documented problem and solution to help everyone :D

Let me know if it does the trick

Ok, I'm going to change out the old strainer and gaskets. Now for the drain and fill. I'm going to skip the 4x process and go ahead and do a 2x process with only Honda ATF. So 7 quarts in all (3.5 x 2). Do you think this will have the same effect.

The reason in doing this is the lube guard. I'm pretty sure its hard to find locally and online after shipping it is $20 already, thats around 3 qts of Honda ATF.

personally, i wouldn't cut corners. Do it once, do it right. Have you been to autozone, pep boys, and advance auto in your area? one of them is bound to have the lube gard. Black bottle, red cap, it was 12 bucks here at o'reilly's.

Quick question, so if I do the 4x drain and fill and the transmission filter swap should I wait until before the last drain & fill to swap out the filter or does it really matter?
i dont think it matters. i changed my filter, then did the flush, and it works great. But maybe do the flush then the filter at the end, so then you have a clean tranny and a clean filter.

Hey guys i just did my transmission filter and i used the OEM gasket, filter, and o ring. I used mobil 1 fully synthetic tranny fluild with a bottle of lucas.
I drove the car no less than block and noticed that the tranny was slipping into first gear. I immediately turned back and checked the fluid again and noticed that it was low. I added more fluid until it was back at the full mark. When i drove the car again i immediately noticed a knocking noise coming from the engine bay. The noise only occurs after the wheel does one full revolution.

Does anyone know what may have possibly gone wrong

Don't know about the knocking but your first mistake was using anything but Honda ATF. Legend auto trannys don't like anything but Honda fluids.:nono: If you must use another type of ATF there is an additive that makes it compatiable with Honda transmissions.
