When I go to the Crutchfield website, 6 1/2" speakers are recomended, but when I talk to local guy he says 5 1/4" fit right in. I put temporary 5 1/4" power bass (suck had to superglue baffle flange down i.e. re install for no reason) but now I'm ready for some polk components since I have little damage to take care of while I'm there. The 5 1/4" power bass sure fit right on to the plastic mounts, but those look removeable and this is why 6 1/2" is recomended by Crutchfield?? Anyone have any tips about component install on a 90 coupe??:patriot: .

I have changed mine (front and rear) with speakers from Crutchfield and I went with some Kenwood 6-1/2" dia speakers which fit very well and are waaaay better then what it was before (I guess the previous ones were the original speakers that were already dead...)
So, go with what Crutchfield says in the "What Fits My Car" section and you'll be happy.

Did you have to remove a plastic mount which holds a 5 1/4 factory speaker ? I sure have one there (I will take pics during job). Also it looks like I have many different mounting options for tweeters up front. I may very well use multiple tweeters on each side...Thanks for the advise..

Been around this one a few times: the OEM size speakers were actually 6.25" speakers ...but no one makes them anymore. So ...you'll have to go with smaller-than-six-inch speakers and make some kind of flange to hold them in place ...or you can go with 6.5" speakers, and modify the speaker holder to accept them. I went with 6.5" speakers and had to modify the mounting holes, and enlarge the plastic bracket that holds the speaker magnet.

I've replaced my front stock speakers with blaupunkt ps652... it came with 10 pre-existing mounting holes, so modification is not needed.

Rear deck speakers are still the original 8" pioneers... just recently added some tweeters and made the sound imaging 10x better.

Pics of install coming soon

8" in the rear with tweeters sounds awesome..I installed polk 6 1/2" components up front sound Awesome...I'm contemplating getting some rockford fosgate amps to drive entire system. i have a kicker comp 12" in back with old 200 watt amp. I am wondering if I should buy two 2 channel amps or one 4 channel rockford fosgate...Best buy has old model 2 channel for $99 each..sounds like good deal..I only need like 60X4
Dynamat install is underway for trunk raddle.
I got this suger mama who is hooking me up with all the stereo equipment I want...LOL Rock on! She not interested in video monitors installed in factory passenger visor though.:nutkick:

Took pics of polk component install will post soon! See everyone at Tri-State tomorrow.

Yeah Ferjie I
I've still got my factory Pioneers in my closet for safe keeping. They were old with torn surrounds, but a little silicone fixed that right up. They are TRULY great speakers that were wonderful n their day...I kept them because I KNOW I will find a use for them in the future :D

My original 4" fronts though are a different story, :( I just use the magnet on those now to hold misc. screws and to rub non magnetic screwdrivers on...they will never serve as speakers again...

Here are the pics I promised of my audio system. If you want a great system for your G1 follow my lead. All of my components were purchased from Crutchfield, All of the speakers except the subs are driven by the head unit, I've got approximately $2000 in this audio system and it sounds phenomenal! Just ask anyone who was at NALM! ...and by all means mount your front tweeters on the kick panels, there is no better location and the imaging is superior! I hope this will answer some of the questions you may have about installing a system in your G1. Feel free to PM me any other questions. I am a professional auto technician and I'm always happy to help when it comes to the Legend!

This is the heart of my system, The Pioneer DEH-6700MP Head Unit. It provides 25 watts RMS per channel and 50 watts Peak per channel. it has a fully programable EQ, High and Low pass crossovers, satellite radio controls (I have XM), Plays mp3 and wma files (I absolutely love this feature!), and so much more!

Behind these factory grilles are Pioneer TS-G1040R 4" 2-Way Coaxials rated at 20 Watts RMS and 110 Watts Peak. I have them crossed over at 600Hz.

These are my Infiniti Reference 1" Silk Dome Tweeters. They are rated at 50W RMS and 150W Peak. They are crossed over at 2.5 kHz via the included inline crossover network. The factory door speaker wiring is run behind the kick panels, just tap into them for a clean and simple install.

Here are the Pioneer TS-A1780R 6 3/4" 4-Way Coaxials which I have installed in the adaptor plates that I fabbed from 18 ga. galvanized sheet metal to fit into the factory 8" mounting location. These are rated at 50W RMS and 240W Peak and I have them crossed over at 125 Hz.

...and finally this is where all the deep bass comes from. In this box are 2 Cerwin Vega (old school CV, I would not recommend new ones because CV sold out a few years ago and the new stuff pure shit!) 8 ohm full competition 10" subwoofers rated at 300W RMS and 600W peak each! Sorry no pics of the subs because it is a total pain in the ass to get the box out of the car! The amp puts out 300W RMS X2 and 600W peak X2 perfectly matching the speakers' requirements

This capacitor is an absolute must for clean and powerful bass. It is a 2-farad. You also need to use one unless you want to replace your alternator once a month. It stores power for the amp so it does not overtax your Legend's electrical system!

First steps...

I pulled my factory sound head unit out and installed my Kenwood KDC 516S CD Receiver and Kenwood KDC-C602 10 Disk Compact Disk Changer that were survivors from my retired Oldsmobile. I want to thank all of the folks here that pointed me to resources that made the head unit replacement a piece of cake. My finances at this time have slowed the progression in the system completion. I had a set of 6 1/2" Cerwin-Vega Stealth SS-262 speakers left over from somewhere to install in the doors for now, (I found my door speakers were both missing the foam connecting the cone to the frame). I am afraid to look at the rear deck speakers but at least they are working without causing me to cring. I understand the Crutchfield verses other sources that induce confusion about door speaker sizes. ...one step at a time. save,save,save...etc. I have only owned my Legend a couple of weeks but love it more each time I drive it. Thanks to all of you for your advice and shared experiences.

I have a L coupe. My system is a 208W Sony Xplod Head Unit w/ Mono Sub Pre Outs. http://www.xplodsony.com/xplod/headunits/CDX-GT710 and 6.5 inch 240W 2 Way Speakers in the front doors (They fit right in, also when I bought them I didnt know about wattage and such, I had thought If I bought really high wattage speakers, they would be all good, then I found out that they had to be weaker than the system.)http://www.xplodsony.com/xplod/speakers/XS-S160CX In the back I didnt have money at the time for more speakers so I took out my 8 inch 170W woofers from my Sharp home component system, and they sounded great on the Sony head unit. In the trunk, I have a pawn shop system. 1 is this : http://www.dualav.com/carsubs/xnbp12d.html mine is acutally red without the speaker grills, but it is the same wattage. Number 2 is this: http://storesense2.megawebservers.com/HS4287/Detail.bok?no=15 a 200W 2 channel amp. So with that said, I cant power both speakers on my 1100W Sub. So I just have one going, along with the 208W head unit produces 408W. It kicks pretty hard but not hard enough. Also my trunks seems to block most of the outside bass. Is that unaviodable? Besides that. I love my system. All I need to do is get a better amp, and do a nice clean set-up and I am good to go.

Got Em

I got my 8" Kickers from Crutchfield and A Fosgate amp. So now my juices are flowing...I am thinking that I will split the wattage from the 4 way Fosgate amp to two new kickers and other channels to run the polk components in front...I am gonna put tweeters in back deck at some point...It's install time...and I (SHE) bought 4 awg Fosgate wiring kit...sweet!!!

I have to build in an enclosure (box) underneath the back deck to house subs

I can fit amp just right next to single 12" on right so that will look great. The 8" Kickers I put in fit basically just right but I will have to do some modification to the opening.... I would love to have a capacitor..:bs:
I will post pics soon...

more

check out driver side. A relay was in the way so I had to move it and keep it attached with only one bolt (not screw) to make room for the crossovers

Note tweeter location. Not the best probably but I think it looks good, and placing them up high by door handle takes away from the lines of the interior.
