So. After I bought the first type 2. It took a long ass time to get it working. I mean, it was march of this year I think before we got it running.
Got it running, had exhaust ran (y pipe and back). Turns out there had been something wrong with the motor all along. the #6 rod bearing was GONE. And I mean gone. Sludge in the bottom of the pan.
Since the bearing was gone, everytime the motor rotated, that rod would BANG around the crank. And because of the extra clearance, the crank would hit the the bottom of that piston on every rotation (breaking the skirt of the piston)
So what we did was...I bought a whole new rotating assembly. pistons, rod, crank, bearings (rod and crank), thrust washers, and a complete gasket set. We went off, to rebuild the motor. The block seemed to be in good condition. So we left that. While we were doing all this, we modified my intake manifold.

So we put the motor back together, put it in the car, and it starts. Idling high, and not staying on...made me kind of worry, but didn't care at the same time. The engine was running. So at this point, the car was still in the air. So we put the axles in, set it on the ground, and rolled it out of the garage. Went to start it up again...and NOTHING. No crank, no nothing. The motherfucking motor seized. No joke. I have not torn the motor apart yet, so I'm not sure what happened. But I will find whatever did this.
So about two weeks after this happened. I ordered a new engine. 27,xxx mile JDM type 2. $1,095 later, it was in my garage. Last weekend, Tyler and I went to stillwater, and tore into my car, hopefully for the last time.
Pulling the seized motor, and dropping in the new one, everything went smooth for the most part. Except for a timing belt problem (we were about 180 degrees off, woops). We installed a brand new timing belt and water pump to the JDM motor, as well as my USDM wiring harness, and put the fucker in there. Here are the pics fom our adventure.
And by the way. It's fast. Much faster than I thought it would be.
