I can see a pattern everyones Auto is dieing. my advise to those of us with a still working good trany. CHECK Your fluid and solenoids.

now now, behave all you 5 speeders
oh i have an auto and had it rebuilt like 1 year ago and im thinking about ramping the car in the river because its still a p.o.s.

once it goes, the 5-speed will come. the auto will get the sledgehammer or maybe thrown into the ohio.

ahahahaha. damn auto. i cursed mine at least once a weak ( then i would apologize in fear of it breaking :p.

mabye it could have been me doing a burnout until the the speedo read 160 kph :giggle: :giggle: . then letting go of the gas when realizeing where the speedo was and haveing the engine come to a complete stop :eek2: well it was on its way down anyways

oh yeah i have a 5 speed arranged to be mailed with all the parts for a conversion :D soon she will live again.

Yeah, I had a thread about the highest mileage auto.
I bought my Legend after it was three years old. Right afterwards I had my ATF changed and changed it just about every year. Based on what we see on the board, most people don't treat their autos right and that is probably why they die. I suspect if the tranny fluid was always clean the solenoids would not get sludged. Since I have 160,000 miles and want to keep the car another 3 years I will feed it fresh ATF every 6 months. I think it is cheap insurance.

it sure is. but the thing is that ever place you take a legend except Honda will put in some **** non Honda ATF. I'll just make sure i buy a G1 off some guy like you when I'm ready for my NSX swap project.

I hated my auto. I thought cleaning the solenoids would fix it. It only helped for a day. Now it is happily burried in my back yard.

OK, Okey.

I know, i know it is more fun to drive a manual 5 speed. But hey, he wifey won't drive the car if it is manual, and if she does not drive the car, then she will sell it.

sh*t huh.:D

yeah, im thinking the end of a cliff would be a good resting place for my auto too :D . come on 5 speed.

naaaaaah, i think i might keep it. some day I'll get some hardcore Clutch Pak, and a good torque converter. upgrade for 600+ HP and then ill have a Legend Drag tranny :p .

i STILL wouldn't trust it.. i swear the these things are meant to self explode/implode. alright thats enough for me, if i keep complaining my car will stop working.

With all the posted automatic transmission problems, it makes me wonder what percentage of the problems are from neglect, abuse, etc.

No transmission (automatic or manual) will survive for any length of time because of neglect or when it's subjected to abuse.

its all from neglect. most likely not from the forum members but all the previous members. how have you have your car paulo ?. it has alot of miles on it so that goes to show if its taken care of itsw all good. i love the auto's there so fast almost as fast as a 5 speed. The autos are alot better than most competitions autos. But nobody takes them to honda from the day there born to forsee any upcomeing problems. and to have true Honda ATF in there blood and changed regularly.

but i have talked with the a mechanic that works at honda. he seems to know his ****. the legend auto in general was never really meant to take the abuse it does. i think it was a modifyed 4 banger auto.

The recommended ATF change is evey 24 months or 30,000 miles. If you drive your car around the city much I can tell you that is pushing it. By that time the ATF is very dirty and you can bet the wear and buildup on the solenoids is there.

The ATF service calls for one drain and refill not the 3X.

I left my Legend with my sis for a couple years when I was away. When I came back, the tranny fluid was dirty as hell - and I had used Castrol Syntec ATF. Then I did one drain and refill. Within one week, it was dirty again - I thought that I was burning the fluid up!. The leftover fluid was so dirty that the fluid was still dirty. Then I tried Honda ATFZ1 ATF - immediate shift improvement.

I think the ATF should be drained and refilled once a year at least for most drivers. If all you're oing is highway miles the honda schedule is OK. If you're racing now and then and pushing it - change it more often.

The same goes for lifter noise. I have always used 5W-30 and changed 3 mos or 4,000 miles. At one point I was using synthetic until my seals started leaking. They're fixed now so I might go back to synthetic. But frequent oil changes will help prevent lifters from wearing. I suspect that it is not really wear but the precise oil passages are getting plugged up from buildup. Especially if the car is used in cold weather.

I have always had the opinion that Hondas need more maintenance or care than Toyotas and Nissans, the trouble is that most people who initially owned these Legends did not look after them properly. If they did, they could last a long time - they're precision engineered but they need to be looked after well.

Just like a nice babe!

I bought my 88 coupe with 127k nowat 135k the tranny went. $1600 for a rebuild. I want to do the 5 speed swap but the info that 90acura posted really wasnt too detailed. So if any one knows exactly what to do post that stuff so we can getrid of these ****ty autos:D Plus there has to be some better internals for an auto to take a little of hard driving.
