Be careful...

I just got front/rear Koni red struts from shox.com (actually shipped from "ASD" or something like that). Took my 92LS sedan down to a shop that I've dealt with a bit before to install them. Got a call yesterday that the rear struts seemed to have the wrong size bushing for the bolt. They called Koni, discussed it, and found out that there were a few rear sets sent out in "error" with the wrong bushing and apparently I had gotten one of those sets from the distributor (i.e. shox.com). They are overnighting a new set of bushings to the shop which should arrive around noon today (yippee). So, I have no idea how you prevent getting the "mistake" sets from shox.com given the system. I'll try and post a better explanation once I get my baby back and more word on details.

Konis ... Nice! Thanks to forum!

So, I ordered F/R Koni reds from shox.com and took them to be installed. The mounting bushing on the rear struts was the "wrong" size. A phone call to Koni indicated that they had inadvertantly shipped some units with the appropriate part # for Legends to distributors with the wrong bushing. They overnighted new bushings to the shop and ... voila ... I've got my baby back.

And when I mean "back", I really mean that it's been a long time since the ride was this great. Original springs, highest perch, OEM stiffness setting. The ride is nicely "stiffer", but the bumps are simply gobbled up before reaching the teeth. Took a road trip from Indianapolis to Durham, NC to Washington, DC and back and simply fell back in love with the car. Nice fun on isolated stretch of I-40 with a new Porsche Carrera, a new MB E320, and my '92. MB dropped out at 110 and I succumbed at 125.

Was thinking of a new TL, RL, or A64.2, but have postponed those thoughts due to "bang-for-buck" reinfatuation with my 13 y.o. original owner pride and joy. At 183K miles, she's due for her 3rd TB (including original). Some new rims, a repaint, and I'm happy for another couple of years.

Thanks to forum for solid insight into suspension options.

You dont want to use stock springs with just the reds- and with the $600 deal from tirerack on the whole spring/strut kit that I got, it appears to be the best value. You have to drop all around, it makes all the difference. This is the kind of daily driving kit you're looking for. Its not eibounce or Hard&Rough -- its simply has responsive sporty spring-rates, maybe with a little bit more aggression that stock but smooth like a baby's ass, Just dont hit any potholes god help you.

Im gonna put in those GB swaybars from addco on all sides if theyre available, and then ill have superior handling with perfect daily driveability. I just pray they know what theyre doing when they make those damn swaybars because you can really make them *too* stiff, and its DANGEROUS.

Jasonzemos,

What do you mean about the potholes? I don't understand....

I want stock ride quality.

Not sure I agree. After doing a pretty thorough search of the forum, I've found a number of people who are quite happy with OEM springs and Koni reds (now including me). He is asking for a "stock ride" quality and has not said anything about lowering. If I were to lower, I'd go with the Eibachs, but the stocks work very well. I would say my set-up now is also more "aggressive" than stock, but not much ... and potholes are not a problem compared to worn OEM struts. Please explain the *why* behind your contention against OEM springs. Just curious.
