I took my recently purchased 91 LS 4D in for a brake and strut inspection. I was told that I have a leak on my L/R strut...they recommended replacing all struts due to the high milage on the vehicle (117k miles). Is that sound advice? The ride seems fine to me.

Also, how much should i be look to be spend? I was given an estimate of $465 for fronts, and $400 for the rears.

I was also told that the rack bellows are torn. How common is this with my milage? I was given an estimate of $170 for this repair. *shrug!*

Thanks for any insights! :)

Details please....

Sounds too much

Bought Koni Adjustables for 440$ parts + 200$ labour ( all four corners )

OEM struts might cost a lot more tho

R they just replacing the struts, or the springs too ?

U shouldnt need to replace springs coz the OEM ones usually last a lot longer than 117K (mine r at 145K & still going)

Unless of course u wanna slam ur car:D Then ur probably looking at Eibach or GC or .....

somebody chime in....

just the struts.

i appreciate you relaying what you paid, i'll get another couple estimates. can anyone tell me what they paid for their OEM struts?

new to forum...what's that thumbs down and details please? am i being scolded? heh.

totally confused by your last comment, can you elaborate? ;)

if you get the koni adjustables you can enjoy oEM ride with better performance at stock height. throw in some eibach springs to make it complete. they lower the car 1 inch which you cannot tell. go for it.
Eibach's are 200
Koni's are 400

This is what you need.
BEAUTIFUL warranty

stock dampers run about what they told you and are not worth it....at least get your money's worth

hi buddy! :)

I'm sorry your struts are going.
My 2 rears are going too, but ride it out til next year or whatever, feel me?

Any OEM strut is typically servicable for up to approx 100k miles. You need to determine which are leaking and then replace as a set; front or rear or both. You may not have to replace all 4 at this time.

The OEM dampers (struts) will be more expensive, but they can be purchased at discount from Acura of Augusta 1-800-736-6818. If you have to rebuild a damper you should also replace, at a minimum, the upper mount. I would recommend replacing all rubber/plastic parts. I further recommend that the spring be replaced as well. This way you end up with a totally new unit.

The OEM rack boots used to retail for about $24 each and take 1.1 hrs each to install.

Best suspension fix

I just purchased a '91 LS Sedan with 110k on it. The car rides ok at slow to moderate speeds on smooth roads, but on any bumpy roads, the car/wheels bouce alot. Also, there is significant wallow in the car after large dips, especially at highway speeds.

I'm on a limited budget, but want to do something to improve ride/handling and give me an overall firm/new ride. I also own a '92 vigor GS with 118k and the ride is so firm and tight, you'd think the car was brand new. Thats what I want to acheive with my Legend.

1. Could I just replace the struts at this point and notice a significant improvement or do I need to get springs as well?

2. If I just purchased struts, what are LEAST expensive ones I could purchase that will provide a noticeably firmer, solid ride? I like the adjustable Koni's, but they arent cheap. Got a quote of $504 from Shox.com. Any knowledge about Sachs? KYB?

3. If need to get springs as well, I would consider a VERY slight drop (1.0 in. or less). But I am less interested in dropping the car and more interested in improving the ride. Again, what are the LEAST expensive ones I could purchase that will provide a noticeably firmer, solid ride? Quote of $219 for Eibachs from Shox.com.

4. What about coilovers? I got a quote on a Ground Control coilover kit for $399. It says the kit " includes Eibach ERS springs, no struts". What does this mean? will I need anything else and will these just replace my current struts and springs? How is the ride?

All responses are welcome!

Thanks!
