Yes, fellow Legend fans, it's good news.
Our 86 Legend was stolen sometime last night.
I went out at 7:15 this morning to drive it to work, and it wasn't there.
The 87 was still home, but it was unlocked, so somebody had been inside of it (and the ignition lock cylinder seems to have been damaged a bit).
So, I called the local police to report it. While I was on the line, my phone was beeping, telling me I had another call.
So, after the first call ended, I answered the second. It was the police, asking me if a certain Acura Legend was my car! They had found it abandoned only 5 blocks away, sitting in front of somebody's house.
So, I went over there, and sure enough--my poor baby was parked on the street, her windows left down in the rain :( , and the seats leaned back.
No damage, nothing stolen (hey, it's all stock--what's to steal, anyway?). Still had the child seat in the back, nothing taken out of the glove box that I can spot.
I put the key in and drove it to work.

Here's the funny part--I can imagine the joy-riding morons starting it up and thinking they're the shizzle 'cause they just 'jacked an Ac'....
But then they realize that though the headlights work, the dash lights don't turn on (yet), and they can't see the tach/speedometer, or what gear the car is in!
Then, as they're cursing that, and hoping that they don't speed so the cops don't pick 'em up, they realize that this $%^&# car won't shift into fourth gear!:nutkick:
No wonder they left it soon after picking it up--the odometer said they hadn't gone too far. :giggle:

But nothing was missing, no damage, and so all's well that ends well. I am going to keep the Club on the white 87 now, because that one has no problems like the 86 does.

AWESOME NEWS!!!

You gotta love when theives get owned!!

Anyhow...the club is one thing you could do, but as I have mentioned on here before, when I park my car in an area Im not to cofortable with, I remove my face plate and all valuables (a plus that your car is stock), disable the trunk pop and lock the glove box.

IF I am somewhere where I am genuinely scared that my car may just get boosted regardless of no visible valuables, I simply remove the Fuel Pump Fuse and the Ignition Fuse from the in-cabin fuse block...I have yet to ever hear of a criminal walking around with a pocket full of fuses...

LOL one of these days I DO plan to buy an actual alarm hahaha...

Yeah, the irony is delicious!

Oh, right...the trunk pop switch is in the glove box, and that locks up with the ignition key. Check!

Yes, I am. I'd be cursing buckets if the 87 had been taken. I'm going to make sure that my "little friends" don't come back and try to make off with that one tonight. Hard to drive a car if you can't start it, after all...

It's a pretty well lit parking lot, too. It really seems like a crime of convenience rather than a deliberate attempt to score some cash from a car (since there are vehicles worth a more parked in the same lot).
It was raining, and maybe the punks didn't want to walk home in the dark in the rain.

I dunno...I believe that the mentality of a theif is "get in, get whatever you can and, get out..."

They have very limited time when they are working and if your interior is SPOTLESS (no CD cases, no loose papers that may or may not have sensitive information, etc.) they are thus going to go for the easiest stuff right away...Stereo, center console, glovebox, trunk:

~If you have a stock stereo or an aftermarket one with the faceplate removed (and WITH YOU!!! NOT UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT!!!)--They'll usually leave it alone

~They'll rifle through the next closest thing--the arm rest console..DONT KEEP MONEY, CDs, or sensitive papers in here!!!! It CANT be locked!!!!)

~If there is nothing of interest in there the next logical place is the glovebox...now granted...you COULD leave it unlocked ASSUMING there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of intrest in there (random papers included)....but I feel that most thieves will try to open it, but if it is locked they will move on to something else in the best interest of time...

~They will try to pop the trunk because that's usually the money shot...but if it doesnt open, and the control switch is in the locked glove box...WHAT DO THEY HAVE LEFT????

If they REALLY wanted to see what you have, the only logical thing to do is steal the whole car...OF COURSE if the fuel pump fuse and ignition fuse are MISSING what are they going to do!!?? WALK AWAY DEFEATED....

Of course they usually wont break into cars in the FIRST PLACE that:

~Are parked in well lit, open areas

~Aparently have some sort of aftermarket alarm (Blinking LEDs) because Attention is a bad thing in their business

~Have absolutely NOTHING of interest that they can visually see through the windows Clean Front seat and back seat...no CDs no Flashy stereo (or stereo W/O the faceplate), no bags, breifcases, purses etc...your car should be squeaky clean!! If you do have that kind of stuff...leave it in the LOCKED trunk NOT IN PLANE SIGHT OR EVEN UNDER THE SEATS!!!!
