2000-up RL front end and tailight conversion? HELP!!

What's up guys? I'm new to the forum. I have a 1996 RL and I wanted to know if it is possible to convert my front end to the 2000-up front end. And tailights as well. Can this be done? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

its possible...it might take some body work...seeing that the 99+ is wider than the 96-98.

if might be easier to sell your 96 and get what you want.
The car is not wider. People have done this already. Its all bolt on, but its mainly all or nothing so it will cost you some cash unless you jack a 99+ car and take all the parts-of which I don't recomend. Get off the board if you're that that kind of person, if not, keep reading :)

In order to do the front end conversion, you have to swap the hood, headlights, fenders, bumper and bumper support.

In order to swap the tail lights, you need to swap the rear bumper as well. The trunk is also shaped a little differently, but you might be able to retain the older trunk.

Then if you've done all that, you will need to swap the side moldings so that the chrome trim matches all the way around. Dont forget the thicker rocker pannels (or side skirts for those that dont know what rocker pannels are)

Its bux but its all a bolt on affair. Good luck and take pix to share with the rest of us.
Thanks for the help buddy. I'll see how much it costs. If it is too expensive I might just stay with the look I have and just red out the amber in the tailights, and hopefully get some hid bulbs to give it a more modern look. I'll share before and after pics when all is done.

p.s. The 96 model came with an in dash cassette player, and crutchfield tells me that they don't have a cd head unit i can fit in there. Did the newer models come with an in dash CD player? Mayby I can get and aftermarket unit designed for the newer models to fit in my dash.
you can also upgrade the entire center console to a 99 or newer one with the CD player and the Navi and all that stuff!
from autotrader.com side by side comparo

1996 Acura RL

71.3" in width

1999+ Acura RL

71.7" in width

the car is wider. but not to where it would affect the application of updated body panels, bumper etc.

upgrading the console from non-navi to non-navi would be easier. I want to do that as I am sick of looking at all that damn plastic.

if your going non-nav to nav...have fun hooking all that ish up.

Hmm. Thanks. would i have to change the ecu also? and is it possible to find a 99 console used? I wonder how much it would cost to obtain these parts.
you might as well go aftermarket and do a custom install if your going to do all that. you'd probably end up spending less money if you went custom than all stock.

understood. forget the navi system. but for now, i wanted to know if the 97-98's came with an in dash cd player. mine came with a cassette player and i would rather have an in dash cd player. But crutchfield does not make one for the 96 model.
nah 97-98's have a cd changer in the trunk. if you wanted to add anything to the dash, i think you'd end up going custom anyway.
im looking to put the new front end on my 96 . does any body know a good source to locate the parts beside acura themselves.
I am looking for a new after market cd\dvd\mp3 in-dash player for 1999 ACURA RL. I hate having the 6 pack in the truck.
