Has anyone heard anything about option prices?
Will there be a package that includes bigger 18 or 19 inch wheels, rear backup sensors and rain sensing wipers? If yes, what will be the price?

Thanks

Looking at one of the pictures, it appears that the power passenger seat is 4-way?!?!

If this is the case, then the RL just lost (or never had a chance) to the 7-Series, S-Class and LS430 right there.
Not to mention no rear climate control or cooled seats.

To get these "petty luxury" options in the cars you listed you'll have to pay at least $25,000 more than the RL!!!

On the other hand, these three cars do NOT have features like SH-AWD, Navigation system with live traffic updates, and most importantly a sporty style inside and out! :2cool:

Apples to apples please. The RL is in the mid-luxury category - think 5-Series, E-Class and GS. With everything this car is loaded with, I can't believe there's some freakin gripe about the 4-way passenger seat. Like this is really going to be a deal breaker for most shoppers. Look at this partial list of standard features:

Keyless Access System™ (doors auto unlock as your approach, start engine and drive away, all while the keyless transmitter stays in your pocket the whole time)
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with location & pressure indicators
AcuraLink™ Satellite Communication System with real-time traffic
GPS-linked, solar sensing, dual-zone, dual-mode auto climate cntrl system
Bluetooh wireless handsfree
Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™
Acura / BOSE® 10-speaker Surround Sound System with 6-disc CD, DVD-Audio and DTS® changer and AM/FM tuner
XM® Satellite Radio (Standard equipment in the 48 contiguous states only)
Active Noise Cancellation™
OnStar Digital/analog tri-modal system (Safe and Sound plan with one-year service)
LED mirror-integrated directional signals
Active Front Lighting System (AFS)
Heated outside mirrors with driver recognition, reverse gear tilt-down and integrated directional signals
Illuminated front door handle recesses
Remote retractable rear headrests
Rear passenger ventilation controls

And oh yeah don't forget about SH-AWD, 5-speed automatic with Sequential SportShift, paddle-shifters and Grade Logic Control, Xenon HIDs, EBD, ABS, and VSA in case you decide to try to make the car lose control

excuse me sir are you retarded? It is 8 way power seat. Does that mean the acura just won?!?!? :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

and as for the people in the back, i dont really care about them to much. they can sweat it out. It does have rear vents. And do forget the GPS system will adjust air flow with sun position. Tell your S-Class, 7-series, and LS430 to suck on that :eek2: ! Thanks

but i do think acura sucks for not putting in cooled seats. you can't get everything you want in one car. NO MATTER WHAT CAR IT IS!

Thank God the RL doesn't compete with the Lexus LS430. I don't have a 04 LS430, but my other 04 Lexus only comes with a 4 way power passnager seat as well. Compared to the GS430 which the 05 RL is priced below, the RL has tons more standard features and just plain old stuff that the GS430 doesn't have. It always makes me wonder why people compate a $48K MPSR car to cars that cost at least $10K more. You can barely even get a loaded GS430 for $48K let alone a LS430 or Mercedes S Class and 745iL.

While the RL is mush less than 7-series etc, it is still in the same category somewhat. The TL is the real 5-er competitor, as it is about the same size and has many more features, but for a much lower price. I would definately compare the RL more to a 7-Series, as it is Acura's top of the line car, which is quite large, and also has many cool features for a much lower price. So, for 48K, I would at least expect an 8-way power seat, considering you can get a 5 series for less with the same feature.

okay smarts, tell me where in acura's literature did it say the TL was a 5 series competitor? especially your model.

Considering Every major automotive periodical and publication put the 3 series coupe against hte CL and the TL in up against the 3-series sedan, i dont see where you're getting your info.

the TSX doesn't have a class. well, one is building around it. Take a Look at BMW's 2 series which is similar in size to the TSX, and SAAB's subaru WRX relabeled "9-2X"

get your facts straight before you decide to troll on this board and make yourself look stupid.

96-02 TL=3,C,IS
96-04 RL=outclassed (no class to contend in)
04 TL=3, C, IS
05 RL= 5, GS, A6, E

and to quote acura's Executive Vice President Dick Colliver.

"it'll be a great competitor for the BMW 530i, the Audi A6, Mercedes E, and the Lexus GS models."

Drive thru please.

Well, I'm not going to compare the 96-03 TL to a 5-series, because there is no comparison. I've been in a 540i 6-Spd, and while the TL has some nice features, it can never really compare to the performance or build or quality of the 5 series. However, the new TL has been compared to a new 530i (R&T), and it has more features, costs less, is almost as high quality, and will out do one on the track. It is also a similar size.

Perhaps the new RL is just competing against Cadillac and (Lexus?). While it is in the same price range as the 5 series, it is clearly bigger and has more features, reflecting Honda's philosophy of more for less. And if you still don't believe me, my friend's dad just went from an RL to a 7 series, so the buyers are obviously similar.

Car and Driver Review

Look at this Car and Driver Mag review of the 2005 RL:

http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=19&article_id=8532

To quote this article: "With the introduction of this RL sedan, however, the perception of Acura as being not ready for admission to the high-rollers club may get a rethink-well, for medium rollers, anyway, since it competes against the likes of BMW's 5-series and Mercedes' E-class. Still, this is the first Acura sedan that can belly up to the no-limits table with the major players."

Well, whatever. I can't be bothered to argue forever. However, I believe that it IS more of a competitor to the Infiniti Q45 and Caddy Deville, which are more cheaply priced than the LS, 7er, etc, not to mention the cabin reminds me of that of a Q45's.
