Just curious about this, actually it was my uncle who asked me. He has a 1987 Ford Mustang GT Convertible, Automatic.

The convertible is heavier than the Hatchback or Coupe (Mustangs in that Gen), @ 3329lbs. V-8 225HP (lots of torque, 300lbs @3000RPM I think). 4spd Auto, Overdrive.

According to him, it doesn't have much pickup after 70MPH, due to the auto tranny. The Legend on the other hand has a lot of pickup still after that range.

Let's say 0-60 and 1/4 wise however. What would be faster? Would it at least be close?

87 Mustang GT Convertible Auto or
TypeII Legend Auto

Obviously as well, the Legend is a luxury car and not made for all out sport, this is a pure #s thing.

Yep, by the #s, the Mustang will have an edge over the TYPE II auto in the 1/4 mile, and have a bigger edge in 0-60. However, it will be a pretty close race to the 1/4 mile given equal divers. If the Mustang where to mess up a bit, and the TYPE II auto had a good run, I feel the TYPE II auto could edge out the Mustang. And yes, the most G2 Legends TYPE I, or TYPE II should have the edge over 100 MPH, especially the TYPE II.

5.0 or TypeII

0-60: I dunno
Rolling: Type II. Just this week I SMOKED a 5.0 Auto from a running start. His response compared to mine at around 70 was nil.:D

Stinger...

I personally have smoked some Mustangs...on the highway, and from the light to light. I actually impressed this one guy about a month ago in his 94 GT. We raced for three lights, and I had a half a car length from jump and one full length to the next light....
it also depends on response time.

They have a great sounding exhaust..but its about an equal or greater win for either car. I am positive a 6 speed stock for stock would eat the Mustang up...unless he's got FI or a SVT Cobra, Saleen. Then he needs to go get his change.

On the Times that Legendz_4_Life just posted if you look closely you will see the auto mustang in there:

1993 Ford Mustang GT(auto) 8.0 16.1
The regular GT is lighter than the Convertible, but the 93 version which is the same generation as the 87 version has 20HP less.

I think if both cars were stick, the Legend would eat it up. However, we both have auto, I have it for family reasons, he has it, because he got a great price on the car a couple of years back.
