All other things being equal , such as purchase price , mileage ,etc.

Of the 2 which would you prefer & why?

As I have a deal made for an 87 coupe but I have till tuesday to change my mind & the 88 I was looking at ,the sellor has offered it to me for same price as coupe. (87 basic ,good condition. 88 leather ,nice stereo, alarm .) I have fiqured on either one needing to spend a few hundred on things when I get them anyways.

they replaced the CV boots, it might need ball joints though eventually. Other than that it needs an oil pan gasket, which I think I can do myself or with my dad's help.

I just fiqure with either one I am going to be spending money to get it how I want it.
On the 87 it is a stereo ,alarm & maybe tinting.

on the 88 it would be mechanical stuff.

I think I will stick with the coupe probaly but, I just wanna make sure I am making the right choice.
The coupe has been owned by older people who live out of town(50 miles each way), so it is highway miles, sedan all city ( was previously owned by an oil company exec). Just trying to do this as cost effectively as possible. I just need to have a stereo though, thus I need an alarm too .

MY TWO PENNIES!!!!!!!!!!

You stated that you are going to spend money on whatever car you buy. With that being said my question to you is. What would you rather spend your money to improve apon your car. A stereo system, window tinting and an alarm or would you rather spend money to fix mechanical problems on a car YOU JUST BOUGHT AND HAVEN'T HAD THE CHANCE TO ENJOY YET. Ultimately, its your decision but, make it a wise one.:)

thanks for the help again all. I think the biggest problem is that I have to much time to thinkl about it before I actually get to sit behind the wheel & enjoy it.

I am sure my new 87 coupe will be just spectacualr once I am driving it.

2.5 vs 2.7... (no contest)
2 doors vs. 4 (I like room and it's a pain in the ass getting in and out of the back of coupes for your friends)
I like the sedan better, but I'm also an old fart (and partial to G1 sedans :D )
You can fix either of these to be a really nice ride, and mechanical problems will come sooner or later to all cars. If you fix things, then those same things usually don't come back up for a L O N G time, and you get the piece of mind knowing that it probably won't go out at a bad time (always).
Good luck with your purchase,

I just went & worked out all the details. I can pick-up my 87 coupe tomorrow afternoon.

I realized that I would rather spend the money getting "toys" for my car than fixing it mechanically. Also I think the 87 was just generally given alot more TLC too.

I must say that I prefer the 2 door look & I do hope it is hard for friends to get in & out of it so they will not always be asking for a ride. :)

Thanks guys, everyone on the forum has been great.
