hey guys, i already posted in the "new member introductions" section, but i figured here i'd get to know you guys better, and probably learn more.

there's been a '93 Legend Coupe in the family for at least a decade (it belongs to my grandfather, but he lives out of the country, so its been barely used in the last 10 years or so). i've recently become the full-time caretaker of the car, since my grandfather slowly wants to get it fixed up, and i'm the only in the family really capable or knowledgeable enough to do that.

i've built my is300 pretty much from the ground up, only recently started digging into the legend, but japanese is japanese right?

cars runs AMAZINGLY well. its a 6 speed manual, everything is bone stock. awesome stock bose audio system (although its having its many issues which i've started researching about online)
exterior has its fair share of dings and dents, and the leather seats are pretty peeled in some areas, so over time i wanna get the car back to great shape.

you guys seem really welcoming and knowledgeable here, so hopefully over time i can become a regular in this forum and attend local acura meets and stuff.

as soon as the forum will let me post pictures, i will. there's tons of things that need fixing, and i'm sure even tons more that you guys will suggest to fix or change.

Alright I brought back the thread and made some changes.

1. I think the 93s had key less entry. but I am not sure. It might keep trying to lock because it is getting jammed doing down.

2. Yes just get a new mast. You will have to take out the carpeting off the side of the trunk. Replacing the antenna mast is a self explanatory fix from there.

3. They stole the wheels? Post a pic up and I can tell you if they are the stock wheels or not.

4. What is wrong with the Bose unit. Is the radio reception bad? That could be fixed with the replacement of the antenna mast.

5. My ABS light was on too and my ABS motor was making weird noised that can he heard from like 200' away. I had to take out the main ABS relay to kill the system.

1. i'm pretty sure it's not getting jammed. trying to figure out if its the actuator itself before buying ones off ebay.

2. thanks for the tip! saves me from having to fumble around trying to figure out how to change the antenna.

3. pics of wheels (and whole car) coming on next post

4. radio reception is actually fine, even with the broken mast. the speakers dont work properly. it takes them about 10 minutes to "warm up" after i've been in the car before i can hear sound coming out of them, and all of them except the passenger door speaker sound really dull.

so the question is, is the the output connections not working well on the headunit itself, on the amp, or is it the actual speakers? somebody told me to get the headunit fixed first and go from there (there's a company out in texas that fully restores them and replaces their old components with new ones. anyone heard of them? willman's electronics)

5. i saw the codes list on the Legend Wiki, which will help. i'll get the codes ran on monday

here's a brief list of problems i've noticed in the past few days about the car. and thanks in advance for any input/help!! i'm slowly getting excited about fixing this car up:

1) i dont know if this car came with keyless entry, but i only have the key. either way, i need to lock the doors with the lock button on the door when i leave the car. when i lock the doors, the lock motor/actuator will perform the "locking" action (where you can hear it make the sound as if its locking) like 30 consecutive times, as if i was pressing the lock button over and over again. and then it'll just stop. i've seen a bunch of used lock actuators on ebay, but i dont know for sure if that's what i need.

2) the antenna was ripped off. someone snapped the metal itself towards the bottom of the antenna. when i turn the radio on or off, i hear the motor attempting to raise an antenna that doesn't exist. so i know the motor works. just need to change the mast i assume? any recommendations? i saw a bunch of aftermarket ones on ebay. i prefer oem though.

3) for most of the past few years, the car has been parked in an apartment building and hasn't been used much. at some point, the valets there stock the wheels and put some shitty ones on there. i assume they did it for the rims, or maybe just the like-new tires. either way, i'd love to know if the wheels i have on the car right now are stock, and if they're not, then what wheels exactly came stock on '93 legend coupes.

4) radio works, but pretty horribly. can't tell if what needs fixing is the headunit, the speakers, or the amp. i read a lot about that today, and apparently the bose system was great for its time, but always ran into its issues as it got older. if any of you have had issues with the stock bose sound system, i'd love to figure out what exactly i need to fix it.

5) i've driven the car a handful of times in the past 6-7 years. for as long as i can remember, the ABS light on the dash has always been on. and i think an uncle or someone has gone to get that fixed a bunch of times, but keeps coming on..

Those are sedan wheels. Does your car have the type II engine? I believe the car should have the 5 spoke type II wheels. Like these below.

The older coupes had 7 spoke wheels.

BTW your car is very good looking. Very clean. Give us a engine pic and interior pics please!

^^^ yea, those are the wheels i THOUGHT should be on the car. they're SO MUCH nicer! hopefully i can find a set. i already saw the center caps on ebay, so i need to just find the wheels.

yea, i left the keys inside and was too lazy to go back in and get them to open the car and get interior pics haha. i'll get some engine and interior pics..

you'd know just from looking at the engine if it is type II?

Damn it. I just tried to post more info and the website died on me. Maybe it is just my internet. Now I have to rewrite everything. Oh well.

Acura Media Newsroom: Archives
This site has every spec, feature, press release, and more about your car.

Clean those wheels up, buy caps for them, then sell them on craigslist. It will be hard to find the type II wheels but just keep searching this site and craigslist.

The coupe I posted is a 1994 LS 6 speed. In 1994, Acura redesigned the front bumper and also moved the lettering and emblems in the back and also made some other small changes. I will post more pics in a minute.

Oh, double check if the antenna mast can come out or not. I have not looked at mine in a while...

It is a type II if it has a type II emblem on the intake manifold. And the redline will be 6700.

Is yours a LS?

oh MANNN, i kinda wish it have been a '94 instead of a '93!!! so much nicer

i found out about the history of the car last night. so my aunt and uncle bought in brand new from acura. my aunt used it as her daily driver for a few years and was gunna get rid of it afterwards. but my grandfather is a major packrat and doesn't like to throw out ANYTHING, so he "bought" the car from my aunt and has had it parked ever since (he doesn't live here so in the past 10 years its just been used here and there by family members).

that's great, cuz i thought he had bought it used from a stranger. so at least its always been in the family. i've never known or cared about the different years, but now i'm wishing they had waited a year and bought a 94!!!

has it been known to do a '93 to '94 transformation? (emblems, bumpers, etc.) would those things even fit?

A type II six speed is the best combo ever made for the Legend. The NSX isn't even that much faster than the Legend believe it or not. Your Legend will hit 60 in about 6.6 and has a top speed of 163. Mine will only do like 7.8 and 136 top speed.

I would ask JDMKANG about changing the bumper. I am a pro with G1s not G2s.

Oh, your car will look SO MUCH BETTER with the type II wheels that you might not even want to change to bumper. The wheels you have are 1991-1993 sedan wheels.

Yeah 95 was the last year. And the 94 and 95 were the same thing. Yours was just a year before the big face lift.

93 6 speeds are rare. It was the 1st year for the 6 so alot of people slept on them

not to rain on anybody's parade but, since there is no mention of heated seats, traction control, or auto climate control do you think this could be a "L" that wouldve had the 7 spoke rims instead of the "GS" rims.

Hey guys. Back from the dead. I bought a different car and didn't finish restoring this car 2 years ago. Just started again last week and making good progress :)

86k miles.

Did timing belt/water pump/engine belts/etc. last week

Replaced compressor bearing which was bad, and one engine fan which wasnt working

Original wheels were stolen by the valet a few years ago at the building where this car had been sitting for a while. Bought original wheels and new tires.

Interior leather is SCARY. Waiting on leatherseats.com leathers to arrive.

Bose headunit transmitting sound only to 1 speaker. Sent it in to get it fixed.

Car at bodyshop getting exterior fixed as well

So definitely trying to get things done
