Yesterday I took a trip from new york to pennsylvania. I drove the whole time on d3 the fastest i was going was 70 miles and the rpms were between 5000 and 6000. Now my question is will this hurt the engine or transmission? Because when i arrived there was a loud sort of tickking sound coming from the engine.

By the way the reason I drive on d3 is because when I drive on d4 the car wont go past 40 mph on the clock. Any faster on d4 the rpms shoot up but dont go any where. Any insight on these questions.?

Sorry for the long post.
Thanks

oofff - yeah.. I've got some insight but none that you want to hear.

Sounds like the your D4 clutch pack has she~ite the bed.

Goodness, 5-6K - I have to laugh a little cause your engine was screaming down the road... whew... thus explains the tapping. There has been alot of conversation concerning tapping and I'm sure others can chime in with some details.

Has this noise calmed down a bit?

Okay, first let me say... Have you checked your transmission fluid lately? Now... I'm not saying that this (in itself) could be a problem (and others may be able to chime in) but your fluid level and quality could be exasperating the situation.

Now... driving your vehicle in D3 isn't going to damage the trans, however, constant excessive RPMS like 5-6K could definitely wear down your engines internals a whole lot quicker.

Anyone else ever experience the same problem?

Well, provided that a 3 x fluid flush is not your fix, then I personally would concluded you are experiencing transmission failure. Best to spend $80.00 and have Acura diagnose the problem if you are not mechanically inclined or presently do not have adequate tools or equipment.

I do want to confirm that you said that in D4, past 40, your RPMs climb without the vehicle accelerating... YEAH... you may just want to save your 80 dollas and start looking for a low mileage replacement.

Holly Smacks... like 227 theeeeousand miles? Sheesh - I think only one or two other people have been that close without being FUBAR by an accident.

Well, if you brought it in to Acura and they charged you the 80 bones only to tell you... "Yeap... ur tranmushion dun went bad" then... I highly doubt a 3x trans swap will help your cause.

Best get looking for a used trans and a NON dealer Acura specialist.

I never bought from them but when I was looking around for a transmission, they had pretty good prices on trans with low miles...so worth checking (call them because their webpage isn't as up to date as their actual inventory).

Your transmission is definitely failing, specifically your D4 gear is gone. Same happened to me, and yes you are killing your engine and transmission driving at such high rpm's for a constant rate...drive in D3 long enough and you'll notice D3 start to fail slowly...
