1989 Legend Coupe

First thing is i have a burning smell here and there smells like rubber burning of some sort. now a friend of mine told me to put synthetic ATF fluid in since the car hasn't been used for about a year, he said that would most likely be the problem since the car has trouble shifting down to reverse and back to park. it still does but you have to push it in... any suggestions?
second... this car seems to be taking in quite a lot of coolant any possible places i should look for leaks?
also the heated seats on the driver's side don't work.

none of these problems existed a year ago before i stored it in my garage while i was away. any ideas? anything would help. thanks in advance.

oh and do G1's have keyless remotes? if so anybody know how much they cost to reorder?

ND1980LS do you know where to get these remotes from. I am from Australia, the owner before me had a remote but it broke so they did not bother getting another one. Thanks.

Steve

You've got some issues. First, check to see if there is oil in the coolant reservoir. No, good otherwise bad news. Coolant never gets used up. Check to see if there is coolant around the belt area/ timing belt cover, you might have a leaking water pump.

Re: the tranny, you have to make sure your solenoids are cleaned and working properly. DO a search on cleaning solenoids.

Only genuine Honda ATFZ1, not the synthetic stuff.

Any rust?

OEM keyless remotes were offered for non-American Legends..........
hopefully you've seen the web site

www.honda.co.uk/owner/LegendCoupe/index.html

my thoughts would be to try to contact a dealer in Canada/Europe to see if they still have that part in stock. I'll ask my dealer if they can get something from Honda.

thanks for the quick response guys. no coolant with the oil. but i found out where it was going. for some reason the clamp for the hose that connects to the engine wasn't tight so it was leaking from there. as for the solenoids how do i check those? and where do you put ATF? sorry guys... im a new chick that's willing to learn. thanks for your help. btw i posted pix of my g1 on the picture gallery.

Thanks ND, I would really appreciate that, I was so mad when I found out that the car had keyless entry and that they did not bother to get another remote. I know most of my specifications and number of by heart, so if you need anything to track this let me know.
Key Number: 3890

89 Legend LS: Open your bonnet and you should see a very short dipstick on the drivers side, it is yellow. It is between the firewall and the motor, you have to look down a bit to see it. Check the colour of the fluid and smell it to see if it is burnt. Solenoid cleaning should be able to be found by searching the forum.
This is one shows where the solenoids are and how to clean them.

Try looking on eBay AUS for the keyless remote. There are many fot sale on eBay U.S,, but only for U.S. cars and Japanese cars meant for this market. There are a few cars that share remotes like the U.S. market Toyota Camry('95) and '96 Isuzu(Trooper?). I found that out by matching FCC(FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISION) numbers printed on the remote. I GOOGLED the FCC numbers.

No, the Camry and Isuzu happened to have the same remote. If your car didn't have factory installed keyless remote, you'll have to purchase an aftermarket remote system or an alarm with that feature. Sorry for confusing you. You can get an alarm system that you can arm and disarm along with locking and unlocking your doors and trunk for a reasonable price.
