Accidental 5-Speed to 6-Speed swap HELP!

So I had transmission probs and had to get a used one. The guy at the junkyard INSISTED that it was a 5 speed, even though it was out of a 93 (I was suspicious). So now my car is in the carport halfway taken apart and I noticed that there's 2 extra wires on the 'new' tranny. I'm thinking that's the reverse lockout. SO OK, I have a six speed now (suspicion confirmed). HERE'S THE QUESTION. What will my new shift pattern be? Can anyone with a six speed take a pic of their shifter? I've been sorting through pics and old posts for a while now and having no luck. Also, will the old 5 speed linkage work with this transmission?
BTW, I've been reading the forums for a while now. You folks have been alot of help. I'll get pics of my baby up soon, I promise.

reverse is all the way to the right and back on a legend 6 speed

5 spd linkage works fine, it's the same as the 6 spd. The only issue you'll have is a non-functional reverse lockout solenoid, unless you get a 6 spd ecu and add the wiring and relay to make it work. It's mildly annoying (not having the lockout) on the 4-5 shift until you get used to it. Shift lever tends to go over too far past fifth sometimes until you get the hang of it.

Thanks for for the quick response. I think I got ahead of myself, it looks like I'm going to be a while swapping out this tranny. These cars sure don't like to be taken apart, do they?

not at all!!! The Japanese make cars with little room to work. The only Acura that has Ample room for working is the Vigor and 2.5 TL which is basically a Vigor. But then again they rarely break so hardly ever a need to have to work on them

i wouldnt be so ignorant. some cars have reverse go to the right and UP.

Well if youve ever looked at a shift knob for the 6 speed youd know. And for the left and up, we dont drive ferraris or 70's mereceds so i wouldnt worry about it.....

i know this. but he doesnt, and maybe he doesnt have the 6speed shift knob. if he did, then it would have been the stupidest question to ask. you could just say, "look at your shift knob retard, it tells you." however, he did not specify. he asked for pictures of a 6speed shifter so he could see the pattern, meaning he obviously doesnt have that shift knob.

im just saying, you didnt have to make him seem stupid by saying "i hope he figured it out on his own." cuz sometimes it isnt as obvious. my dad had an old a$$ 86 beemer 3 series. reverse was in the upper left position, but the sticker on the knob said it was down and to the right. the previous owner got a new shift knob and BMW had changed the transmissions around so the previous one was discontinued...thats why it was different.

Why in the hell would I ask "Can anyone with a six speed take a pic of their shifter?" if I had one to look at? How incredibly stupid would that be?

I hadn't thought about it, but most of the manually-shifted cars I've been around were German. The most notable of those were Volkswagens and Porsches. Both of the VWs had shifters that you PUSH IN to get to reverse and I think the Porsche had reverse somewhere off to the left. I remember being a kid and having dad explain to me that reverse and first were close together so that you could 'rock yourself out' if you got stuck in mud or snow.
Bearing that in mind, when I realized that my new transmission was going to be a six-speed, I started thinking about the possible patterns and it seemed like every transmission had like 3 'rows.' There were the gears all the way to the left, straight up and back, and the gears to the right. But when you got to a total of 7 gears (including reverse), there would be 2 'kinda in the middle' rows, and in my mind, this seemed like a recipe for disaster and people would always be accidentally going into the wrong row. So, I just assumed that the Acura people, being famous for over-the-top ergonomics, had implemented something like a 'push in for reverse' scenario to allow one to be confident which gear they were headed to next. I would have never thought they would have put reverse right next to 5th or 6th, because an accidental shift from 4th to reverse or even 5th to reverse would be seemingly catastrophic, and now that I know where it's located, it makes sense that they implemented a lockout solenoid.
So, given all of that, maybe I should have simply titled my post "6 SPEED SHIFTER KNOB PICTURE REQUEST" and I wouldn't have people insinuating that I'm an idiot for asking such a stupid question simply because THEY don't commonly see reverse anywhere but all the way to the right.

:werd: i drove one of my uncles early 90-something Golf one day, and the pattern on the shift knob was completely gone..and i couldnt find reverse to save my damn life

. Eventually, i found it, and it was like all the way to the left, push in, and down or somethin odd as hell like that lol.

Relax people.. and to add to this discussion, drive a Porsche 968 6-spd, the reverse is pretty much where first gear is.. I've heard of many owners with some pretty embarassing experiences.

lol, attack!! I wasnt calling you an idiot? I figured hey, if hes got the tranny, hes the got the shift knob. Sorry, no big deal, I'll take all blame so this flamewar will stop. I know, my audi tt has it up front to the left and in, it took me forever to figure it out, and it even had the gear picture on the shifter. And an extra tip.... I dont know how easy it is to swap over but try to use the 5 speed flywheel instead of the 6. The 5 speed is about 17 pounds lighter.....

I'm sorry for getting nasty. I'll blame it on my Acura being sick and try not to do it again.
As for the flywheel.... I'm leaving the old clutch, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing mounted on the back of the engine. I think it's a straight bolt-on. We'll see.
