Acura Coolant (Blue)

I had my radiator replaced a few months ago and I asked my mechanic to fill the system with Acura coolant (which I provided). I did not have an occasion to look at the coolant until recently when I noticed that the coolant in the overflow tank was green.

When I asked my mechanic about this, he said that he filled the system with all of the provided Acura coolant, but there must have been some of the old coolant still in there. He said that since the car has been running fine with this "mixed" system, then he would just leave it be.

Does my mechanic's story sound true and does his advice to "leave it be" seem appropriate. He is replacing a fan motor tomorrow and I have left him with all of my extra Acura coolant (3 jugs). I can tell him drain the system and fill it with Acura coolant, even if he has to buy more.

Advice?

Thanks in advance

My personal advice, flush and fill with OEM fluid. Don't mix the two, as they have different properties and might not mix well. If I am not mistaken, I have always been advised not to mix. If the system was back flushed, you should not have green. Running water through the entire system avoids that issue. Ask him to not only do a DRAIN & FILL but a BACK FLUSH as well. Any ASE Tech will understand the difference in the two.

Thanks for the quick response. I had the mechanic flush and flush and fill. He said that the problem was that the Acura fluid that I brought was 50/50 (diluted) and he had a hard time getting the correct concentration after flushing with water. He suggested that I bring in concentrated Acura fluid next time and it would make it easier. Have to admit that I didn't notice that it was 50/50 - just assumed (from the price at the dealership) that it was concentrate....

Anyway, got the car back with the repairs done (new radiator fan motor and a/c relay) and all blue coolant. Another Legend back on the road!
I never realized that, I will have to call my dealer and ask if they have 2 versions. I'm glad everything is working out for you, maintaining the cooling system is key with these rides. Take care of her and she will take care of you!!!
Is the 50/50 the safest to go with, to avoid the incorrect balance?
If you go with Type II coolant no mixing is required.
Thank you both for the advice!
