Who has this alarm? I just bought it and before I install it I wanted to know a few things from those who have it. You can email me privately if you do not wish to discuss certain things in public. My email is [email protected]
Anyway, I was wondering where people mounted the huge communicator module? Does that little LED status light on the communicator module continously blink when armed? How often do you need to use the communicator program button in real life? I rather hide that unit better if I could.
Also, while it seems like a very good alarm, I have found some flaws in the design, and was wondering what others felt.
1. the lack of a LED status indicator for visual alert to thieve.
2. The cord that connects the communicator unit to the alarm brain is not that long, which means the brain needs to be installed fairly close to the communicator, causing limmited installtion possibilities for the brain under normal installation.
3. The auto door locking feature is pretty crappy IMHO. For starters, it does only auto locks the door after about 3 minutes. A lot of things can happen in 3 minutes. Also, the locks automatically unlocks when you turn the engine off. There is no independet programming to turn this part of the auto lock/unlock feature off. On my current alarm, I keep the auto unlock disabled, as I do not want my doors to auto unlock for security reasons.
Anyway, it looks like the company that makes the Aladdin alarm had a very good unique idea with the 2 way paging and communication system, but they really are a few years behind the big boys when it comes to actual security and design.
Obviously I will be modifying a lot of things on this alarm so I can install it the way I want it to be installed.
One last thing, I can't get the back light on my remote to light up thus far. Maybe it is because there is no communication to the brain since I haven't hooked it up yet. At least I hope that is the case. If not, I'd be pretty pissed that my new remotes back light doesn't work.
