Hey guys and gals....

I have been reading threads for 2 days trying to figure out my problem but unable to pinpoint exactly the problem. My 95 legend LS started acting weird when after disconnecting the battery to clean the cables. After reconnecting the battery cables the alarm came on (no problem right?). The car was already unlocked so I put the key in the ignition hoping that would turn the alarm off....no luck....so i then got out of the car and went to the passenger side and locked all doors then unlocked with the key in the passenger side door. Alarm came on again and since then i have not been able to disarm it and it will not let me start the car. At first i was getting the led lights on the dash and it would not start. I checked all fuses and no fuses are blown. I also tried the instructions posted about using the valet switch. I found a off and on switch hanging from a black/grey wire to the left of steering column. I assumed this was the valet switch, I saw no other switch near the fuse panel. Using this switch as instructed, i thought would work when trying it one time, I put the key in the ignition to the on (ACC) position then flipped the switch to the on position and proceeded to start the car. Within a matter of 2 seconds, the alarm lights stopped flashing and the car was about to start but then went dead. At this point, no led lights, headlights nothing. I then saw a post about disconnecting the brain unit of the alarm system under the dash. Tried this also. After pulling the lower dash down I found the black box and disconnected all connectors, still nothing. I then reconnected all connectors and still nothing. Now when i put the key in the ignition i hear a clicking noise as soon as i put the key in. There is also a clicking noise under the hood from the box next to the battery. I'm lost at this point. Not sure if my battery is totally dead (tried to jump it but no results) or if something else is going on. Help!!! :(

Sorry for the long post...just wanted to give the full details......

Ok, do this, in this exact order:

Open your door
Pop your hood
Inset key and turn to position II
Disconnect battery
Clean terminals
Reconnect battery
Start car

If no start condition occurs!
Disconnect aftermarket alarm

If still won't start PM me!

Your aftermarket alarm went off due to the loss of power and the gaining of power. You must have an old alarm cause the new ones remember what mode they were in before power loss. And when the car was finally going to start it didn't have a good enough connection to the battery and arched the connection killing the power!

Give it a shot and let me know!

Thanks Hot Legend.....but one question...

Is it safe to unscrew/disconnect the battery cables when the key is in the ignition and turned to position II? Just wondering.......

Also...after the car sat for a couple of hours it now has LED lights on the dash but its very dim.....then i attempted to jump it from my girlfriends car and after connecting the negative cable (positive cables are already connected) to my battery it sparks...that was scary..it shouldn't do that...

Ok, it is ok if you disconnect and reconnect the battery with the key in the II position. Just make sure you are disconnecting the negative first then the positive. The when reconnecting: positive first then Negative. It shouldn't spark too much. Also make sure you have the polarity on the battery hooked up right. Also check all your fuses and make sure none of them are blown, cause if the battery was hooked up backwards it will blow almost all the fuses. Let me know how it goes.

If it was me I would start with disconnecting the battery and using a paperclip to trick the alarm into thinking the hood is always open. This usually fixes it. If that does not work I would be worried about the ignition. If the alarm is activated it should disarm once you put the key in the ignition and turn it to on. You also might have one, or more, faulty door lock actuators. Try a search for "paperclip alarm" in the G2 section. You will find all the directions you need.

He is talkin about an aftermarket security system I think. But just incase it is the OEM security system I told him to connect the battery with the door open and key in position II. This is how I disabled the one on my G2. But I think it is an aftermarket unit cause he mentioned something about a valet switch which the factory system doesn't have.

Very true about the valet switch, but still most alarms will not work if the hood is in the open position from power on.

BTW: Get another sign.

Didn't work Hot Legend....... i got nothing..no lights on the dash..no interior lights or headlights.....I am wondering if the battery died with all of the alarm stuff going off yesterday....i pulled the horn fuse but the alarm going off in silent mode may have killed the battery totally. This happened on the first day of this and after a few hours of letting the car sit i had interior lights again. Maybe i will wait for a while to see if the lights come back and try again to get the battery jumped. I also took a pic of what I THINK is the valet switch but i am unable to attach it...i don't have the option to add attachments

It does sound like your battery is dead. You have to host an image before you can post it. Then when you post you put in a link to the picture. I am sure there is a FAQ somewhere. You should have free hosting from you ISP.

Thanks guys for all of your input...problem is now solved...first i had to take the battery out and take it to autozone to have it fully charged because it was totally dead...unable to jump it...then i tried what hot legend suggested again but the alarm came back on immediately and i was unable to disarm it..now that i have a fully charged battery i just disconnected the aftermarket alarm unit below the steering unit...i'm not sure what brand the alarm system is but i will be shopping for another aftermarket alarm system......any suggestions???

I know of a few places in town that do alarms. What kind of features are you looking for?

Also you should come to the NOPI Nationals. It is about 2 weeks away at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. It is the largest import car show in the United States! We will have a good trun out of Legends and a cookout at my house Saturday evening. Check the meets section of the forum for more details.

I guess i don't need anything real fancy dancy..i dont' know much about car alarms but...something with a history of being reliable and trouble free. Maybe i should find out what kind of features are normally available on car alarms and go from there...
It is up to you what you get. Here are some of the options:
Remote locking/unlock
Remote Start
