Antenna cannot retract!

1604 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  jose3030
My GS's antenna does not retract. I can hear the motor working, but nothing happens. :(

Is there a easy fix?

How much does it cost to get it fixed?

Thanks!

The inner cord of your antenna is probably broken.

A new mast will probably cost around $60-$70.

wallstrum typed up a tutorial on how to fix it.

Antenna Replacement
Broken cable or bent mast. When you remove the mast assy check to determine that the cable has not become broken. If so, you must remove the assy and open the case to remove the broken piece of cable. Order a new antenna nut. They usually become scratched when removing them w/o using an antenna nut socket.
Sometimes it's dirt and dust on the antenae that keeps it stuck. Try cleaning it with WD40, and then applying some lubrication. works everytime for me. I have to do this about once a month.

It's worth a shot if you're going to replace it.

Or else you can just disconnect the antenna and push it down really hard like I did. Unless you listen to the radio all the time, it probably won't matter for you since there is a secondary antenna throughout the rear window. So you still should get really good reception, at least I do.
2nd antenna?

Thank you folks for the helpful replies.

I did not know that there is a secondary antenna throughout the rear window. This is new info. If so, I'll disconnect the main antenna and see what happens to my FM reception.

Yeah, let me know how it goes. I get pretty good reception from my 2nd antenna.

Umm, wow, ok, I'm gonna try this.
I too need a new antenna mast, and it's not like I cant afford it, but I'd rather spend my money on other things at this time, since I *ALWAYS* listen to my cd changer, so it's useless either way. :)

Just disconnect the power to the antenna and i'll be fine?
