This is kinda spooky, but I have never experienced it myself:

(G1 Legends)
http://consumerhallofshame.homestead.com/

(Sterling, Rover)
http://www.davep1.freeserve.co.uk/rover/tech/uncomman.htm

They both eerily claim the same problem, when started, for some people the car all of a sudden accelerated right away into the reverse gear. What's interesting is that both the G1 and Sterling 825/827 share many of the same parts such as the engine.

Has anyone ever experienced or have a friend whose experienced this?

I've read this article before and its a crock of sh%$#t. The person had their foot on the gas rather than the brake and did'nt realize it. They also won't accept the fack that they screwed up. Its much easier to blame the car and collect. If you have one foot on the brake and put the gas to the floor with the other, the only thing you will accomplish is stall the engine or destroy the torque converter, but you won't go anywhere. But these people will swear up and down that ghosts were controlling their car. You hear the same story every time.

This is more believable.
I can understand the shoes being it.

I can't drive my 6speed w/ my bigass Doc Martens. But if I tried, I'd probably end up like those fools did. (or rather, in my 6 speed, would stall the hell out)> :)

It's a crock...

It's driver error...Audi had the same situation with their 5000CS some time ago. I'm pretty sure they concluded it to be driver error (maybe in part to the pedals being too close together). In either case, I'm not going to worry about it...I leave my car in N when parking and pull the emergency brake. I only put it in P when parkig on a hill.

She'll probably go on with life being paranoid to drive any car from now on....

Actually had one of those in 91. 88 Legend went 300 ft at full tilt before crashing into 2 parked cars.Owner refused to move the car to take it to the shop, said it had a major defect. Made me move it. Guess what, won't accelerate uncontrolably unless gas pedal is pushed to floor.

Darwin award honorable mention candidate?

Hehe. I did something similar when I had my permit. I was doing a 3 point turn in my moms Mercury Sable (rebadged Ford Taurus), put the car in reverse, nothing, so i pressed on the gas and it took off. Of course it was my fault, sort of. The transmission was crap and didn't go into gear for about 3 seconds, but once it did the car accelerated very nicely, backwards, into a tree. It was very frustrating, slow motion and all... my foot got stuck on the brake on the way up and my hand didn't get to the e brake (conveniently located next to the fuse box by my left leg) fast enough. Oh well.

THERES A GHOST IN MY LEGEND!!!!!!!

Well guys we all go through alot in life. Now I'm not saying that these claims are a crock of shiznit but, if you all think back you might be able to recall something that you all may not have an explanation for. I remember watching cops and there was a car ( not a legend ) that had NO DRIVER IN IT but it was going around in circles in a parking lot. I also watched a racing boat show and their was a driver hauling a$$ in the water and all of a sudden the boat threw him off later neither the driver nor the mechanic could find anything wrong with the boat or its mechanicals. I'm not saying I agree with the claims but, like I said we all go through alot in life and I'm sure you all will agree with me when I say that stranger things have happened. KEEP YOUR EYES OPENED AND WHATEVER YOU GUYS DO BE SAFE.:D

I had seen these aswell. I don't know if its true or not but I had seen this before I bought my Legend. I've heard of this happening to the early 90's automatic BMWs so it really made me think about if I should but a Legend or not.
Another thing thats unrelated is that I noticed my front seat belts don't lock up when you jerk them really hard. Has anyone had to replace there seat belt mechanism's?

I thought seat belts only locked up when the brake was pressed a bit, or is it both? But you're right there was some Airbag recalls, and Seatbelt recalls. But from what I recall, the seat belt recall was basically to fix pieces of plastic which may get into the seatbelt and make it not lock up. They would put int some sort of safety device to protect it....

Also does anyone know if Seatbelts are free for life? Repair that is. Does this apply to all cars?

So, for all cars? Cuz my mom has a 1993 Ford Escort, and it has those "sliding" electrical seat belts, the friggen thing is jammed and wont retract, not only that but sometimes it goes on wildly if you have your fingers on the track, you're screwed.

o those stupid automatic seat belts
i had a bad experience with those...before i got my legend i was looking at a 89 maxima with those seat belts...they sometimes go wild and fast that I broke off the sun visor and it landed on my hand. The owner wasnt too pleased...i thought it was funny but then i was like he is not gonna make me pay for it
in the end, i told him ill let him know about the car
hate those damn seat belts

Something like this happened in my neighborhood!!

A block over from my house one day, a lady backed her Legend out of her driveway across the street and into the house across the street. She then went forward across the street again and ran into her own house. I just assumed she was drunk or something, but, her neighbors said her car just rapidly accelerated in reverse then she panicked or something when she hit their house, put it in drive and ran into her own house before finally shutting off the engine.

I'm a real skeptic about these things, but, that was pretty freaky.
