what kind of motor oil should be used for a higher mileage, 5 speed coupe? i need somethin good for the gears, cause sometimes the gears grind when shifting from 2nd to 3rd?? thanks.

I know the book calls for motor oil, however....

Redline MTL or Honda Manual trans fluid works best.

Redline may help those synchros better than honda stuff - also one thing that I found has helped to smooth out the action of the shifter was to put some high temp lube on the ball joint at the bottom of the shift lever (know what I'm talking about?) and on the linkage.

Transmission lube won't help cure a mechanical problem, but if you just stick with what the owner's manual recommends, you'll be fine.

If you prefer to go with synthetic go with Redline. They recommended MTL for my application (substitute for 10w30 - 10w40 motor oil).

I heard someplace that synthetic motor oil is too slippery for proper synchro operation in a manual transmission.
