As the title stated, the black paint is peeling off of the silver window trim and it looks horrible.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and what did you do to fix this?

If you used specific brand or product names, it would be much appreaciated!

Are you talking about that black strip frame around the front and rear windows? and when the black peels off, it reveals the silver metal frame? if so, yea i have that too, and there is slight rusting too!! no remedy though

I've seen spray paint made specially for black trim around windows. To use it, you'd probabally need to sand the old paint off (at least where it's comming off now), mask off EVERYTHING around it, and spray on a few light coats. If you're inexperienced with spray paint, get lots and lots of advice before you do this.

BTW- if you're starting to rust now, get some rust treatment NOW! It will get worse and worse and worse if you don't , and be especially worried when its near your windows (which makes body work VERY expensive since you might need a specialist to remove the windows and reweld stuff...). The rust treatment will melt/convert the rust into black sandable primer and temporarily inhibit the spread of the rust. Professional body work typically can run into the thousands, so attack it now before it gets that bad. The rust treatment ("ONE STEP" by Mar Hyde or Bondo) is available at any atuo parts store.

Sorry for the long post, but I would hate to see someone else go through what I'm going through (with rusting).

I had this happen and when my car was in the body shop to have the rust in the gas filler area fixed I had the spray the trim too - it was pretty cheap to get this done and it sure looks better. I agree with the earlier reply about fixing rust as soon as you see it. It doesn't get better with age.

oh no, the body around the trim is fine. its just the actual metal strip has slight oxidation and rusting. i could jus replace the strip of metal when the rusting gets bad right?

I had that black stuff come off the trim around the back window so I just masked and used some flat black paint by rustolium on it. Matches pretty well and hasn't faded.

This piece should be available at the acura dealer. It will probably be the whole chrome piece with the black attatched. The piece is clipped on kind of wierd, so you may need a special tool to remove it. Once the black strip has begun to peel you're better off getting a new piece. I will have to do that soon.

Just to give you a baseline for the pricing, my driver's door black rubber moulding was $110. I would guess that the chrome window trim piece would be around $75. The dealer should be able to bring the part up on their computer and tell you.

My car has the same situation. But, i really like the silver/chrome under the black paint. Ive been peeling it off slowly and revealing more of this silver. Mine hasnt rusted and is really shinny. it looks like the newer cars with the chrome around all of the windows. Well, good luck to you all!
