Many of you know my car is in the bodyshop for a complete re-paint. I am starting this thread to show pictures of the progress of the work being done to my car.
I went there on Friday after leaving the car there on Monday and found many of the trims and moldings taken off the car including all the lights. The bumpers were removed and also the spoiler. Already they have sanded the car down to the metal in most areas and have already repaired the large dent that someone left with a kick on the door, also all my little dings are gone!
All this prep work should be done on the car soon and mid next week he should have it all done with primer.
Here are some pics I took:
BTW.. the "redish" looking stuff on the side of the car is actually a reflection of a red Ferrari that was parked beside my car at the time.
Below here are pics of some clips that broke during removal of the trim. He said that these are "one-way" clips and needs to replace them. Unfortunately Acura does not sell clips seperately and therefore I must purchase new trims. Is this true? Also where can I get trims for cheap? I'm thinking I'm going to try the parts guy at Downtown Acura here in Toronto that I know who gets me stuff for almost cost, and if he can't do me a deal on these particular parts perhaps I"ll try Acura of Augusta.
For those of you who did not read my precious post, I am painting my car Carbon Black Metallic (BMW 416) which is the frosty black you can only get on a BMW M3 and M5.
One more thing, he said my spoiler has "blisters" on it which he might have a hard time fixing up as it'll be prone to "blistering up" again. Is this something that happens to our spoilers? He said he'll do his best to make it perfect, but just in case, does anyone have an OEM coupe spoiler that is willing to sell it? This is the spoiler WITHOUT the brake LEDs with it (for the 94/95 rear).
More pics to come on Tuesday when I go visit the shop again then.
This shop is one of the best in the city, and it's called Gibson & Vander Fine Automobiles. It's located in Concord, Ontario near Rutherford (16th) and Jane St. The guy i deal with there his name is Frank Gibson and their number is (905) 669-9647. If any of you Toronto guys talk to him, tell him "Costa with the black Legend reffered me".
Here's the only thing about this shop that I must caution you for, he's not cheap (his main customers bring him Porsche, Ferrari, RR, etc) and he really takes his time and is really busy. It took him 5 - 6 weeks before he was able to bring me in. To do a paint job of this quality (removing everything off the car) can run upwards of $4000+ CND ($2600+ US). My insurance is paying for a big chunk of this, however I will pay a bit of the difference from my pocket as the insurance company will give him what the average bodyshop would charge to do the same job. I've seen this guy's work and I've seen cars leave his garage that look better than they did out of the factory. Actually when i went there the otehr day, he also had an Audi S8 which he was painting the front end of. The S8 is a rare beast!
I got more pics to come after my visit on Tuesday. The trunk and hood should be off the car and it should be all primed up.
