Many of you know my car is in the bodyshop for a complete re-paint. I am starting this thread to show pictures of the progress of the work being done to my car.

I went there on Friday after leaving the car there on Monday and found many of the trims and moldings taken off the car including all the lights. The bumpers were removed and also the spoiler. Already they have sanded the car down to the metal in most areas and have already repaired the large dent that someone left with a kick on the door, also all my little dings are gone!

All this prep work should be done on the car soon and mid next week he should have it all done with primer.

Here are some pics I took:
BTW.. the "redish" looking stuff on the side of the car is actually a reflection of a red Ferrari that was parked beside my car at the time.

Below here are pics of some clips that broke during removal of the trim. He said that these are "one-way" clips and needs to replace them. Unfortunately Acura does not sell clips seperately and therefore I must purchase new trims. Is this true? Also where can I get trims for cheap? I'm thinking I'm going to try the parts guy at Downtown Acura here in Toronto that I know who gets me stuff for almost cost, and if he can't do me a deal on these particular parts perhaps I"ll try Acura of Augusta.

For those of you who did not read my precious post, I am painting my car Carbon Black Metallic (BMW 416) which is the frosty black you can only get on a BMW M3 and M5.

One more thing, he said my spoiler has "blisters" on it which he might have a hard time fixing up as it'll be prone to "blistering up" again. Is this something that happens to our spoilers? He said he'll do his best to make it perfect, but just in case, does anyone have an OEM coupe spoiler that is willing to sell it? This is the spoiler WITHOUT the brake LEDs with it (for the 94/95 rear).

More pics to come on Tuesday when I go visit the shop again then.

This shop is one of the best in the city, and it's called Gibson & Vander Fine Automobiles. It's located in Concord, Ontario near Rutherford (16th) and Jane St. The guy i deal with there his name is Frank Gibson and their number is (905) 669-9647. If any of you Toronto guys talk to him, tell him "Costa with the black Legend reffered me".

Here's the only thing about this shop that I must caution you for, he's not cheap (his main customers bring him Porsche, Ferrari, RR, etc) and he really takes his time and is really busy. It took him 5 - 6 weeks before he was able to bring me in. To do a paint job of this quality (removing everything off the car) can run upwards of $4000+ CND ($2600+ US). My insurance is paying for a big chunk of this, however I will pay a bit of the difference from my pocket as the insurance company will give him what the average bodyshop would charge to do the same job. I've seen this guy's work and I've seen cars leave his garage that look better than they did out of the factory. Actually when i went there the otehr day, he also had an Audi S8 which he was painting the front end of. The S8 is a rare beast!

I got more pics to come after my visit on Tuesday. The trunk and hood should be off the car and it should be all primed up.

Cool.....

I had a simillar situation wherein my insurance agreed to paint my car. However they only agreed to pay for the entire driver side. If i wanted to get the whole car painted i had to pay an extra $1000 from my pocket. I wanted to save up for HIDs and Rims, so i just got the driver side painted.

I'm sure your 6 spd will look 'menacing' in the new carbon black metallic paint.....

Hope everything turns out well.

Post lotsa pictures!!!

That verry COOL!... Why wer only some of the pars of the coupe blasted down to the metal while other parts were left w/ the paint on? Where all those parts that were dented? even the trunk hood? 2K for your repaint thats pretty cheap... IN Miami FLA on of the best body shops (does Rolls Royce and Bently's) quoted me 4K-5K for a repaint...

clips

i talked to a body shop that was gong to paint my car ... and they said that some of the clips would break ... and that they were cheap and he would cover the cost if they did ... so ... they should be available for purchase and should be relatively cheap ... hope that helps ...

Went again today to deliver my headlights after polishing them up, BTW.. you can see pics of my headlights polished up on the last page of the following thread:

http://www.acura-legend.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1888

Anyways, when I was there, the car already had a layer of primer on it and they were in the process of adding another layer. The hood, trunk, spoiler and bumpers were going to get primed once tehy rolled the car out of the paint room. By the end of the week it should all be sanded down ready for paint and hopefully before the Canada Day long weekend (July 1st) I get my car back.

Here are some pics I took:
I'm going to visit him again on tuesday to see the final stages and stress him to get my car doen by the end of the week!

See I wish I could take thoes pics to some of the body shops around ATL and tell them YOU CAN PAINT THE PLASTIC TRIM!

Hop you get the ride back in time..Good for you..:)

BTW, Are there any special conditions when you paint a car that you can't do untill the paint settles... Like wax or wash the car right after (a few days or a week) it's been painted?

whoah... reminds me of my car. of course you're getting it professionally done, we were just a bunch of know-some-of-it amateurs. how much is this costing you? how many paint coats are they doing, if you know?

and i needed a new door:

turned out pretty nice though. still needs a little wet sand/ buffing, but I can't ocmplain, especially for what we paid. and YES, those clips are a BIG BIG BIG PAIN IN THE ASS! They weren't too expensive though, but they are a ***** TO GET BACK ON TOO! annoys me just thinking about it...

Here's some after pics:

Wow, that is a very nice sedan dude, you should be proud. I would eventually like to get my car painted as well.

Would it be possible do you think to get my chrome strip redone?

It's starting to look bad, sorry to say. :(
