Bought legend, nothing but problems!

So last year I had a fistful of cash and was looking for a sharp looking car. I found a 94 Acura Legend 3.2L Sedan Type 1 with some minor body mods attached and some amazing looking chrome rims and low profile tires. On the way home from the purchase I notice the smell of something burning. Then POOF! smoke was pooring through my heater vents.

So as anyone would do I immediately pulled over and popped the hood. Not suprised I noticed oil leaking from the back of the block around the tappet covers. Okay, no big deal, I gotta replace the tappet gasket.

Drove home with no further indications of any problems though the smell was god awful. I drove the car around for another week or 2 before my radiator exploded going down the road only about a mile from home. I hurried home before causing it to overheat beyond repair.

I got the radiator replaced, which the guy I purchased it from said he did... NOT!
The radiator was still factory original. I flushed the engine and heater core before installing the new radiator and also replaced the thermostat in the process. I noticed the electric fans wasn't kicking on either so I bypassed them making them come on and shutoff with the car.

Took it out later that day after feeling accomplished and noticed it would start heating up at a stop but drop back down once I started pushing 40-50mph. I couldn't see any indication of a BHG such as coolent in oil or vice versa.

I'm thinking maybe it's a flow issue from the water pump or possibly a BHG. I plan on replacing both. Also the car doesn't idle properly now. It revs up and down between 800-1.5k RPMs which I believe is the IAC.

Sorry for the book, just wanted to cover all my basis. Any suggestions or comments are highly appreciated.

To make things easy do a chemical test to find if theres exhaust fumes in your coolant.

If that test clears it means its not a BHG yet.

For your erratic idle, it could be coolant seeping through your HGs

Is there coolant in your oil?
Are your radiator hoses front upper/lower and rear swollen?

Replace your fan relay (sinces its bypassed you dont have to but humans are forgetful and you can blow your motor if you forget to turn the fans on)

Replace your thermostat with OEM and coolant temp sensor
no if you fan is constant on the car will not cool off! replace the fan control unit. your going to end up blowing the hg doing it this way.

ok you are sort of correct ... first off the erratic idle menas u are getting air into the coolant bleed it correctly with the lisle funnel second exhaust gasses in the coolant is only one way to tell if it has a BHG or SHG pull the rad cap smell the gasket if it smells like exhaust also pull the tube from the overflow bottle see if u see any gunk on the end of it also smell it for exhaust ...third the only way to tell 10000% if it is a BHG or SHG is to do the sr5guy test pull out the rear pass side coil and plug insert a compression tester with the schradder valve removed hook it up to a air compressor u will hear air coming threw the valves lock down the crank with a 19mm socket and a long breaker valve this is tough u will need some muscle but u will here it seal hence no more air once that is locked down look for air bubbles coming threw the lisle funnel should take about 1 min or so if u have any bubbles coming threw than its confirmmed BHG or SHG pending on how fast the bubbles come up now as soon as u take the air away from the hose the bubbles will go away almost immediatilly within 20-30 sec
