It depend on what width rim you go with.

I have +48 offset on my rims, but they are 17x7.5, so the front are flush with the fender.
If they were 17x7, they would be able to fit under.

40+ is not a good offset. You should go with +44 at a minimum.
like these guys said, if i were you i'd run a 17x7.5. 17 is the diameter and 7.5 is the width (in inches). you can run a 17x7 but i like to go as wide as possible. next year i'll be looking at 18x7.5. Offset is measured from the hub, in (i think). basically with our legends we need a high offset. if you go to low like +35 for example the wheels would stick out. i think bmws, mercedes, etc require low offsets. Our stock offset is +65. you will probably never find an aftermarket rim with that high of an offset, so don't worry about going too high. i think people with 19's run a +50 or something. basically offset is the key. our G2's have a 5x114.3 and if you are running 17's i'd at least go with a +44 offset, as mentioned, just to be on the safe side. so basically i think all the info above is accurate...someone please correct me if i'm wrong. i'd definitly post here before you purchase rims and find out if they will fit. good luck remember just because it's 5 lug doesn't mean it will fit, (offset is key, especially if you are lowering your car)

Rim Size and offset

I have a 94 type 2 Coupe fitted with 17x7.5 Kosei Rims with a 42mm offset. Tyre size is 215/45x17, and they fit fine, no rubbing at the rear arches even when the rear suspension is compressed, but the clearance is like 1mm between arch and tyre, so if you go for wider wheels it will probably rub.

Check out this link to calculate tyre sizes - I found it pretty useful !
Put the Standard tyre size in the top, then use the bottom box to see what trye/rim sizes you can get that are closest to standard
