This is my recommendation since I do this for a living. Get them cleaned by a professional. Yes it's going to cost you more money, but you'll get it done right. Open your phonebook under carpet cleaners and look for a firm with the IICRC certification logo. The IICRC is an orginization that certicfies cleaners. You'll get the best job from one of them. DO NOT price shop. In this industry cheapest=crap. My guess on price, depending on the area, should run you between 50-100 bucks and that should include a fabric protector such as Teflon. If they have it you should request either Teflon Advanced or Fourguard protectant. They're the best. Hope this helps!
