Catalytic Converter removal: HOW??!?!?

I have a memeber wanting to buy my CAT, but I can't really seem to find a way to get it off.

Can someone help me out? Pics would be nice, and any tools I'll need would be appreciated. A helms scan would be perfect, but I'm sure someone around here should be able to help me get this pulled off.

Second question, will my car be driveable once the cat is removed? I haven't quite placed it in the spot it needs to stay. Not familiar with exhaust systems at all-just need some guidence.

If you have an air compressor and gun, life will be much easier. It's just 4 bolts, 2 connecting it to the y-pipe and 2 connecting it to the b-pipe.

Edit: I could be wrong, there maybe 3 bolts per flange.

Cool cool, I'm guessing the "Y" pipe looks like a Y, I'm pretty sure I know what it is you're talking about. But what is the B pipe? Once again, im a n00b when it comes to exhaust.

I do have access to an air gun, but any idea on what size these bolts are?

The car is a parts car, if anyone needa any of the remaining exhaust pieces let me know!

Ok here is an exhaust rundown. Your exhaust manifolds & y-pipe looks like the picture below. The manifolds bolt to the head and have 3 holes/ea for each combustion chamber. The manifolds then connect to the y-pipe. Not pictured would be the catalytic converter which connects to the other end of the y-pipe, which looks to have 3 bolts on the front flange.
P.S. This is a Type I set-up, the Type II is slightly different.

The b-pipe is the pipe between the cat and the muffler. There should be 3 nuts that attach the b-pipe to the cat. Those should be 14mm nuts. Sometimes they get pretty rusted and have a tendency to round off. Spray the studs on the cat with some wd40, etc and let it soak for a few minutes. An impact gun will definitely make it easier to break the nuts loose. Also it may help to remove the exhaust from the rubber hangers and drop it down some to get to the top nut. At the y-pipe end, there are 2 bolts that connect the cat and y-pipe. The bolts are 14mm, the nuts on the ends of the bolts are 12mm.

brake fluid also works REALLY well if you've got some laying around. just be careful with it.

damn.... look at the little down pipe from the exhaust manifold.... hella restriction... i'm looking into getting custom 2.5 downpipe... wonder how that do... :vomit:

2.5 y pipe is too large for our motor, 2.25 is the biggest you really want to go unless you are building a 3.5 hybrid.

Went to pull that thing off today, and we got the 4 bolts on the b pipe off, but the 2 on the top are super corroded and will have to be torched off. I'm going to be out of town until Thursday-so I should have the cat off by this weekend.

I will get a shipping estimate for you also, I would guess it would be close to $40 or so.
