check engine light question

I have been noticing that when I drive the car for a little while, the light appears. I have checked the ECU, and its not throwing any codes, I am in need of some ideas. I thought it was the egr valve, but that pulls the number 12 code. Like I said, there are no codes, and the light goes off when the car is shut off.

I was told o2 sensors..my car also shows no codes
o2 sensors only cause check engine if the car is run at 2500rpm+ for 15mins or more, my care seems to get check engine anytime I am going uphill @ 4000rpm+ even if it has been running only 5 mins
turning the car off makes it go away again
Light never comes on in other conditions and my engine purrs beautifully
mileage is also fine
I'd also love some input

Is a bad ecu a serious problem if the car is running fine?
worth my effort to swap in the other one I have - is it hard?

Either that or they are looking at the TCU and not the ECU. Another reason could be that they are turning the car off then back on and checking the ECU! Only certain codes stay in memory!

I've actually tryed to check them both ways, on before I shut it off, and then shutting it down and turning the key.

The ECU. And yes, I checked codes for the transmission on the TCU. I understand the concept. Thanks for any help.
