From my service manual: The CRANK sensor determines timing for fuel injection of each cylinder and also detects engine RPM.
I had to have mine replaced recently when having the timing belt replaced. They have to remove the timing belt to get to it. The part cost 145 at my dealer. My car is definitely running smoother since the change. Hope this helps some.
Thanks. that helps! I need to pick up a service manual myself. The car has 82000 miles and the belt has never been changed. you think a bad belt will do it?
The sensor can be tested when you have the timing belt, water pump and drive belts replaced. The code started on me right before hitting 90k. I paid $750 for the timing belt service and the sensor replacement at the dealer.
