When I got it 6 months ago it needed $1000 worth of little repairs. Now I feel/hear/see the following:

1.) Car vibrates left and right at low rpm in first two gears
2.) Shifts VERY abrubtly at cold starts
3.) Smoke comes from the tailpipes until engine warms up
4.) Constant rattling from underneath
5.) A birdlike sound from underneath the hood when the clutch isn't in.

I know some others have complained about these things as well. I have a 94 Coupe 6-speed. Could everyone who are having any of these problems reply and note what year/style you have, tranny, if you got a diagnosis, any additional problems, etc. Maybe we can figure out what's going on.

Peace,

Solutions to at least one of your problems.

The constant rattling -

from underneath your car is probably a loose or rusted Muffler shield. My car is a 92 5spd stick. It did the same thing and got really f-ing annoying. I spoke to an Acura tech about the posibility of just removing it and he said that its only there to keep some heat out of the cars cabin. I immediately (that night) removed it using pliers and gloves. Its was pretty easy sing the damn thing is really thin and rusty anyway. i did notice a little bit more heat coming through from under the center console but it is only noticable if you are looking for it. I did it last summer and there are no major.

The birdlike sound -

from underneath the hood when clutch isn't in. If its any consolation... I have the same problem. It all started for me after I got my clutch replaced including the master and slave cylinders. Something just needs to be oiled or tightened I think. Its been like that for 20k miles now. I don't think its anything serious.

Abrupt Shifting

at cold starts is completely normal. Your gear box just has to warm up. (At least that what Acura of Boston told me 2 years ago). It usually gets normal and silky smooth after a good 10 minutes right? Relax.

I have a 95 L automatic

I only experience:

3.) Smoke comes from the tailpipes until engine warms up. This smoke is probably due to the car warming up. I was told that the engine will allow more oil to burn to heat itself up, thus the smoke out the pipe. Please correct me if I've been misinformed.

4.) Constant rattling from underneath, but not so constant. Just as Boston Speed noted, it is something loose on the muffler. I have not made it a point to single it out and take care of it.

5.) A birdlike sound from underneath the hood when the clutch isn't in. I have an automatic so I don't experience this problem in the Legend, however, in the Accord I do. When I had my clutch changed last, nearly 3 years ago, the same chirp song developed. I was told a $3 O-ring should to be replaced. The problem is, I think you have to drop the transmission to reach it.

Can anyone tell me WTF is going on?

At idle, when car is in Park the Coupe has a slight rumble that vibrates the whole car... I guess it would be called a "rough idle"..

I have an AUTO 95 L Coupe..

Clutch Chirping

I just ordered my stage II and was told to expect some chirping until the clutch was fully worn.

Anyone else with experience this chirping?

Boston Speed, did you go with a peformance clutch?

Now that everyone is talking about this chirping, i noticed it last night while my car was idling in neutral, and I was outside dickin' with my stereo.

Thai.... your rough idle is a common problem on all legends, and I have had a auto sedan and manual coupe, and right around 1500-2000 rpm they seem to vibrate rough.

My dad who also owns a legend, took it to his acura guy, and he told my dad it was some sort of flywheel imbalance that makes the vibration... but it is not a big deal..

I have a G2 LS Coupe, and when I bought it I noticed the shimmpy between 10K rpm and 12k rpm. Once I got the rear tranny replaced, all was good and the shimmy went away. That was my only issue. Not sure about that smoke from tail pipes, mine doesn't do that. and, mine is automatic.

10K-12K RPM? What you got under YOUR hood?!?!

Forgive me, my sordid sense of humor doesn't let me let others get away with typographical errors... :p

The noise when the clutch is out is a noisy throw-out bearing. If it is old or low quality, this will happen. This is one of the many parts on a car that must be a factory supplied item to perform properly. Any car with a aftermarket t/o bearing will probably develop this noise, in my experience. As for smoking (kumiko) this is NOT normal. The person that told you this must not have wanted to become involved in a big problem. No modern car is designed to consume engine oil to warm up. You should have it diagnosed, or if it is a minor problem, just know that it will not get better, at some point in the future you will be dealing with a real problem. Also jason 520, the rattling sound is easy to fix. Like others have said, it is just the heat shield, but if you can avoid removing it, you should attempt to refasten it. Honda engineers put it there for a reason.
