What material is he going to make the exhaust out of for that price?
My exhaust with a universal Remus muffler costed me about $625 but that was a 100% stainless steel system.
I went with a 2.5" exhaust, 1/4" larger than stock (stock size is 2.25"). I also had the exhaust system designed to include flanges exactly where the OEM Cat would mount so that every 2 years when I went for emissions I can put it in. For everyday driving I just have a 2.5" striaght pipe that is mounted in the cat's place.
My system runs from the exhaust manifold to the muffler. I also had my pre-cats removed (only in Type II you find those).
I cannot really compare the "loudness" of the exhuast to one with cats on stock pipe diameter with an aftermarket cat-back as I never had the opportunity to hear one on a Legend. My exhaust has a deep "rumble" sound when idling and driving on low RPM. However when I go W.O.T and exceed 4,000rpm, it gets really loud but a really nice F1 sound (no rice sound). Everyone that has heard my exhaust loves it.
Although I have not yet dynoed my car, I definetly felt a big increase in performance, especially in the high-end. ALot of people say torque suffers when opening up the exhaust and lowering the backpressure, but I have not felt any noticable difference in that department.
I was thinking of taking my car to the dyno soon, althought the results will not be as accurate due to a blown head gasket which has recently made my car feel slightly sluggish.
But I will dyno my car before and after my headgasket job as I plan to do many many other internal upgrades to my engine
