DIY: JDM Door Sills

It takes a certain amount of courage to tear apart our luxurious interior,
but even more to cut it ;) You will be doing exactly that using this DIY--tearing and cutting.
Do not worry! It's a cinch; trust me. If I did it, you can too.

1. Remove the top portion of the sill by wedging a flat surface underneath and carefully prying upward:

2. Once the top portion of the sill is removed, the bottom half is next.
Removal is just like step one. Pry from behind as to avoid damaging the paint:

3. Now the top and bottom halves of the sill are removed:
(check out the 12-year-old preparation plastic)

* if you're a neat freak like me, then clean underneath where the sill used to be.

4. Cut out the USDM sills as such:

Notice I cut before the small hump, just after the raised grips.
In step 6, you will bring the cut forward, right at the small hump.
It's easier to do this in two phases to eliminate an accidental screw up.

5. Pull apart the cutout:

6. Now that the main cut is finished, I used a dremel to smooth out the cut and actually bring it forward a bit, right to the small hump, so the JDM sill sits flush.

7. You may need to pull off the mount tabs from the USDM sill
if any slipped off during the removal. If so, do that now and place them
back in their mount holes. Finally, sit the JDM sill in place:

Repeat steps 1-7 for the remaining sill.

I spent more time polishing the sills than I did intsalling them:

Good luck and God speed!

 great diy
hahhha nice... i will call you when i get mine in... looks nice and simple but i'm stupid... hahah took me 2 hrs to get off my bumper!!! hahhaha..... but i do have a custome bumper so yeah.... hahhahhaa.. still proud!!!... latzzz.... gonna get my jdm's in soon maybe you can help me with that... i can't fig out how to wire it...
where can i get the sills for a four door?
Very nice! very nice!do they have those for a sedan?
I have never seen JDM sills on a sedan.
That doesn't mean they don't exist, though!

wish we could get the illuminated ones for the sedan ... damn those are the cockiest addition you could ever make to a legend.
That looks so damn good. I think you will be able to fool people into thinking they come stock on USDM legends.

How long are the sills? Hopefully they are just about the length of the sedan's sill.
Love the Perl book in the picture. I keep that one hope you don't mind.

Nice job. I know what you mean about polishing the sills. Mine looked a little rough when I got them, but some chrome polish took care of that.
Where do you find JDM door sills period!!! Whether it be for a coupe or sedan ....where in the world can I even find a door sill like that ?

you sorta answer your own question. i guess you need a connection over there to help you out.
Thank you very much, Keith  Very nice pics and esp very nice work. I love your JDM sills, is there any more of it ? :giggle: Thanks for all my friend. Thread got moved in the DIY! -Mike
Just bought a dremel. Installed the EDMs last week. These gotta be next. How flush do they sit? Is there any gap where the step plate doesnt look stock after installing the JDM sill?

Maybe you could post a pic of the coupe from above. ....kinda like what you'd be seeing if you were getting in the car.

Thanks for the DIY. I've had mine for a year and never installed
