ive got a few problems with my legend, but dont know whats causing them. First off when i first start my car it idles pretty high then slowly goes down, but in the mornings i can go up my hill without touching the gas, also when i do push on the gas at right about 1500rpm i hear a sort of grinding noise, it also happens when my rpms are coming back down after i let go of the gas, it only lasts until i drive around for a little bit, also is there anyway to know if the timing belt/ waterpump have ben changed? i bought the car used at 112000 the guy said he did it, but i didnt see any documentation, what would be some of the symptoms of a bad timingbelt and waterpump? my check engine light is also on i gotta take it to the dealer to check it out, also is the fuel filter easy to change out? sorry bout all the questions just wanna find out whats wrong with my car

RPMs when VERY COLD will be at about 1500, and drop slowly down as it warms up, should be at ~600rpms when warm. This is normal...

Now, the grinding noise, sounds bad, I have no clue what that could be. As far as timing belt goes, there is really no way of knowing if a timing belt is worn, until it breaks, and when it breaks so goes the engine with it.

You can get the ECU codes by searching in the DIY forum for "ECU CODES AND WHAT THEY MEAN"

You basically, pull out the service connector on the front, right hand side of the car, (by the footwell), get a paperclip, and "Jump" them together, this will flash the ECU codes on the check engine light

keep an eye on the belt. You can see wear if the belt is geting worn. The lines on the innter belt will be chipped looking. No complete uniform lines. This is what my mech. told me. --=Keith

Carfax does not tell you who the previous owner was or how to contact him. It simply tells you what city and state it was registered in along with the mileage at the time and whether or not it was a private, commercial, lease vehicle, etc.
