i got a code 6 reading from my check engine light on my 95 which is the coolant temp sensor anyone know where to start on this or the location or should i just replace the sensor?

i noticed also that my fan kicks on when i just turn the ignition to the on position and the car has been sitting all night and is completely cold is that a for sure sign that the sensor has gone bad and needs replaced? also is there a diy on this that anyone knows of? if not i will prolly make one for everyone on here...just trying to help everyone that has helped me
