Are all ECU's the same ?

Say I purchase an ECU for a 95 auto, but my car is a 93 auto.
Can I send it to get Stage II programming and will it come back programmed for 93 ?
ie. is the programmign for all 93-95 coupes the same ? (I know that auto vs manual will be different)
Would like to know if they just write the code to a chip and then slap it in, or do they actually read the chip that is on the board and apply changes to that code.

I am not sure if the year matters or not. But I believe the software they use to do the programming is located here..
Hondata.com
I am guessing they use this setup with car on the dyno and record/change settings. I have a different setup that I can program ECU;'s with and it works. I have never done one on Acura legends but have done them on Integra;s.. there are some jumpers and resistors that need to be added.

Hi Spiff,

as far as I know, that you can use it for the models L to L and
LS to LS (means Coupe to Coupe and Sedan to Sedan). Here is the part No. (Coupe to Coupe and Sedan to Sedan absolute the same.

Caution: You can also use the ECU from the LS Coupe into the L Coupe, but NOT THE OTHER WAY RETURN!!! (Means L Coupe into LS !!!)

And the next different is, if you own an Type II Legend (235 PS). These engins owns an different ECU (because TCS = Traction Control System). The Type II L Coupes don´t have an TCS system !!!
Hope this helps...
