Hey Guys,
A lot of cars have been stolen around Denver in the last few weeks.
I want to protect my car.
If I pull the ECU fuse, will it run?
And more importantly, will it run right once I put the fuse back in.

I also plan to disconnect the coil wire, but I want to make it double sure, you know?

If you pull the ECU fuse, won't it run a little rough temporarily every time you start up?

Couldn't you just disconnect the battery also ??!!

Actually you COULD pull the Main Relay and then youd know FOR sure that no one will be stealing your car anytime soon

FWIW On my 71 Datsun, the hood latch has been removed from the cab and the hood can now be opened ONLY by me with a special tool that I custom made (100% sure it will NEVER open without this tool short of cutting it open with a sawzall!!) and I disconnect the coil while the truck is parked all week (only drive it on weekends)...

Well, I pulled the ECU fuse today. The Check Engine light stayed on, and the starter moter wouldn't even turn, so I doubt anyone will be taking it without that fuse.

Does the ECU control the signal to the starter moter?

Did it idle rough when you reinstalled the fuse? Just curious...

No it didn't, even the code 17 was still in it (and it was unpluged for a good 5 minutes)
