i've smelled cars with aftermarket cats and some of them have this smell.
but it can also be caused by bad egr valve or bad oxygen sensors....
did you have the smell before you replaced the cats?
the rotten egg smell is sulfur.
fyi the coolant temp sensor is actually cheaper at your local acura dealer..Rumnarv said:Sounds like you are running a little rich... Is your air filter in good shape? Have a fuel pressure test done. I had a similar problem and it ended up being the fuel pressure regulator. The diaphram broke and the vaccum line was sucking in gas causing it to run rich. A bad O2, map, and coolant temp sensor could cause this. BTW a sensor that is not completly shorted or giving out of range data will NOT turn on the check engine light. A sensor could be bad and not turn on the CEL.
1st. Check Air filter.
2nd. Replace coolant temp sensor. It only costs $35.00 from autozone. Very simple job. This sensor is a thermoresistor that after so many times of getting hot and cooling down it starts to loose it ability to change its resistance value based on temp. Just replace it.
3rd. Have a fuel pressure test done. If that passes the move on.
4th. Take it to a shop that knows Hondas. They will have diagnostic equipment that could look at these sensors and compare the readings to spec to make sure they are functioning.
Maybe yours, but at Tim Smith Acura in Ft walton Beach FL it is around $50.00. Autozone was the cheapest I could find.bl420 said:fyi the coolant temp sensor is actually cheaper at your local acura dealer..
and why do you think people buy OEM quality stuff at their dealer...LegendLuxury205 said:[email protected]! You must be nuts! Nothing at an Acura Dealer is cheaper than just buying it from Schucks, Auto Zone, Napa, or something like that.. Acura dealers overcharge everything they tryed making me pay $80 just to get my code for my bose stock stereo deck, when i took the serial # out myself.. IDK, i dont like em..
bad egr valve.how do i find out if its bad.do i change it.and oxygen sensors.ohh and last what is sulfurbl420 said:no im not joking...
