Engine Start Delay

On some occasions when I turn the ignition key to start the car, there is a 1-2 second delay then a click before the starter turns over. At other times, the car starts promptly as soon as I turn the key. A failing battery cannot be the cause since I installed a new Optima Red Top earlier this year. This delay was occuring with the old battery. Does anyone have an idea about what might be bad or failing ?

Occasionally mine does this too. But mine has never been over 1 second, however, I do sometimes notice a delay.
